Did I damage or hurt my engine ?

Here is the video, accidentally put it in 1st instead of 3rd.. sigh

car drives fine and havent noticed anything different in the past 4 days

sounds like u put the clutch in as it over-revved.

personally I think it should be fine

thanks for the reply, from looking at the video that's what I thought too.

However something crossed my mind - what if it did overrev but the tacho couldn't jump quick enough to ? I.e. It was actually in the 9k+ rpm but tacho showed 7.5k - 8k. Is this possible?

Maybe if you put your phone down and just drove the car, you would be able to pay attention and not dumb stuff like throw it in first?

There is a reason that is called a "Money Shift".

The really bad news is that IF you have an engine problem because of that, the dealer will know what you did and will deny the warranty work.
High revs like that are recorded in the black box.

1) Nobody who is a mechanic has chimed in yet, but I doubt you did more than over-rev for a fraction of a second. Doubt there was any major damage as the revs immediately came down.

2) get a mountable camera, keep your hands free, and drive carefully from now on.
