My car should be in the same place then. My dealer told me last week that my car was on a train headed East.

Now the question is.. how long will it sit at the railhead before they load it onto a truck and send it to the dealership?

Best case.. If it's off the train today, they could get it onto a truck today and possibly to a dealership tomorrow.
Worst case.. It could sit somewhere for a few days to a week to collate with other cars destined for that particular dealership to maximize shipping efficiency.. which would suck.

Either way, I would guess that we'll have our cars by next weekend at the absolute latest. There's a chance we could have them this weekend...

I asked my salesperson sometime ago and I seem to recall that it's usually like 2 days from the railhead to our dealership in SE MI. Gotta e-mail the salesperson today to ask what happens if my car arrives when she's at the BRZ drive event for dealers early next week. I presume anyone can do my paperwork, but salesmen are probably very protective of the deals they worked on for a while...

Got an email today from my salesman.. He confirmed that the car was at the rail-head. He also said that the upcoming holiday might work against me.. Said the truck drivers probably want to get home early to make the most of the long weekend..

I don't know if he has any fact or experience to base that on, but there might be something to it..

Well.. here's hoping my car is out on a truck right now. I'd sure like to pick it up tomorrow or Sat.

Eikond are you picking up your car in one of the Chicago dealerships? Where is the rail head here in Chicago?

That would mean that mine should be on the same truck. Was your ETA 5/29?

No sir, I'm buying the car from Brunswick Subaru.. A far south suburb of Cleveland.

I wish I could drive to Chicago and pick up the car. . I'd leave work right now and get on the road.. but we all know that can't happen.

I have no clue where the rail head is for Subaru in Chicago.. I'll play around on google maps for a few minutes.. but the best I would be able to offer is a guess.

We need to dispatch some local PI's to go find our cars.. like the guys did with the ships on the west coast.

Yes.. My current ETA is listed as 5/29. It was originally 5/27, then moved to 5/15 and then moved back to 5/29.

Clearly the car is in or around Chicago right now, so it should be here before 5/29. I think that's a safe bet.

I'm not sure how they package the cars onto the trucks. I'm sure they don't fill one truck with 8 BRZ's for 8 different dealerships.. that would be a poor spend from a logistics standpoint. Rather, they probably try to keep a single truck to one or two dealerships that are close to each other. That would make the most sense from a cost standpoint.

I used to sell Toyota's, and most often the trucks would have 3-5 different car models for our dealership. Typically there would be 2-4 spots open on the truck because it had already dropped off a few cars at another local dealership.

So, with that in mind.. if you are buying your car in MI, I would say my car is not on the same truck as yours. But, I don't see why our delivery would be more than a day or two different.

But, we don't know what train service Subaru uses.

Union Pacific apparently has a huge yard in West Chicago.
I'm not sure how to link a google map.. But go to google maps and type in "Union Pacific automotive facility, West Chicago, IL". It's just Southeast of DuPage county airport.

So far I've found that BNSF employees receive an employee discount on Subaru. This should indicate that Subaru does use BNSF.
I've also found a port of vancouver, wa website that talks about a subaru unloading facility and also mentions Union Pacific railraod in the same article.. that might indicate that Subaru uses UP as wel... but not sure..

*One more edit.. based on this article.. I'd say BNSF is the most likely carrier of Subaru's cars. They apparently carry 80% of the freight out of the port of Vancouver. http://www.portvanusa.com/news-room/...ement%E2%80%9D

So, my best guess is that Subaru uses the BNSF facility in Elwood.. Just south of Joliet. That's a long drive out of Chicago.. but if someone lives on the south side already and has nothing better to do.. maybe they can go snoop around? Take a camera!

I do hope we get our cars here before the 29th in Chicago. But as of right now the only info. I got was from SOA via email telling me its on a train I don't know if it has arrived in Chicago or not. I need to look into these rail heads see what info I can find about our cars

Its like an hour drive from where I live. I'd like to go there since I've got nothing to do but I really want to know first if we can see from the outside. Also hoping there are no security cameras around that area

I received the same update today for "month of June". I'm #1 at my dealer in Arkansas. The SOA region rep was at the dealer today and stated people in our region (N. Texas/OK/AR/MO) should be getting an additional update in the next 2-3 days.

Hopefully, that means VINs but I'm not holding my breath.

This may be a nutso idea, but what the heck.. might be worth a try...

Tell them that you are with an online automotive news source (it's close to true) and you are working on a story about the Subaru BRZ. Ask them if they can confirm whether or not any vehicles are on site at the moment. Ask them if it is at all possible for you to bring a camera to the facility to snap a couple shots of cars sitting in the parking lots. If they will allow you inside.. great.. if not ask them if it's possible to snap a shot or two for your article from outside the facility.. if perhaps there is a road nearby that might offer a view with a telephoto lense?

Worst case is they say sorry.. can't give you any info.
