Sadly, I am beginning to feel a lot more this way about our cars

It's going on three years and TRD nor sti has done anything worthwhile to take this platform racing because of its bastardized roots is how I am beginning to paint this picture. TRD would rather focus on their rc-f and Subaru threw away the bastardized d4s engine in favor of their own developed ej into the gt300 car. Plus they went to town on their new wrx for 24h nurburgring and probably couldn't give two shits about the brz. Toyota also developed a gt86 car for the Asian Grand Prix but went v8 with that car. There's no hope in sight unfortunately.

In that regard, I don't think any of these basterdized cars ever produced any serious race cars from their developers. They were simply slapped together, sold to the masses, then forgotten about. 3000gt/stealth and eclipse/talon never were pushed into competitive racing by either Chrysler or Mitsubishi from what I recall. Yet Mitsubishi went all in on their Evo and Dodge/Chrysler introduced their Viper to go racing.

Metaphorically speaking, I couldn't marry a chick with baggage. I would love my own before I were to love some other dude's kids. No offense to anyone. But the same seems to hold true in the auto world too.

My second favorite car that I have ever owned was my 91 Talon TSI AWD so apparently I have this thing for bastards!
You nailed it though that nobody ever went much into the race scene with any of these combo deals. They tend to be a highly hyped flash in the pan and then are cast aside when the companies part ways (which they always do eventually) even though some of the products were great.

We my friend are the red headed step children. Beaten down mercilessly and constantly reminded that we aren't as good as the real thing.

Mitsubishi, after they parted ways with Diamler Chrysler, just started going horribly wrong. The 1st generation of the Eclipse/Talon were amazing. The second gen, even though heavier were still amazing cars. Owned both a GS-T and Talon TSi. Shepherd Racing, Road Race Eng. and a couple other tuners did amazing things with the platforms. They were Mitsus best seller in America. They practically sold themselves. You had a model for every buyer. GS and RS versions for the guy or gal who just wanted a nice car but didn't care about performance. A GS-T for those who couldn't afford the GS-X but still wanted the extra power and that beautiful 4G63. Then the "Spyder" for those who wanted a convertible and guess what!? You could have it with the engine of your liking! Then in 2000 after 2 years of putting out awesome looking concept cars with ideas of AWD and turbo lusciousness, they release the Tyrese Fast and Furious bound FWD POS!! It has been down hill from there.

Mitsubishi doesn't even seem like they are trying anymore. The Evo 8 and 9 were amazing. The X kind of left a bad taste in my mouth. My father purchased an Evo 8 the month they were released. It was like driving around in a Ferrari. Everyone would stop and gawk, ask questions about it and take pictures. The car was a pure race car made for the road. Limited nannies, no cruise control, just bare bones and fun! Loved that car. Then the X came out and the car seemed to lose it's personality. Tried too hard to make it a luxury sports car even though it was down on luxury. My father went and test drove one because he was thinking of getting one. He walked out of the dealership and said "It's not an Evo". That was in 2008, fast forward 7 years and the Evo X looks exactly the same with 0 changes. Nada, zip, zilch. The rest of their line up is garbage too! You couldn't pay me to drive any of their other vehicles!

Since the Eclipse died in 12 and the Evo is done this year it is pretty safe to say that they are out of the performance segment anyway.
I had a 2003 Lancer Rally that was a good little car and a 2008 Lancer GTS that was a great car (talking DD only here folks) but then got a 2012 Lancer GT that just sucked so bad I took a horrible beating by the bank just to get out of it!

Stop please! You're making me miss my old DSMs.

I'm starting to think I will never be able to find a stock one again.

I loved my 91 TSI AWD but the upkeep was killing me and I started a new job that required way more driving then I trusted a 12 year old car to do.
It is hardly untouched though as the guy that bought it turned it into a 600+HP dedicated drag monster that has won many a race.
