Glad she made it. Lesson is dont remove your steering wheel for an aftermarket one without an airbag.

Hydraulic chop saw. Jaws of life would crush and tear the pillars. Those were cut off clean.

Never thought of how a Toyota cowboy hat logo could be a potential shuriken during a steering wheel airbag deployment. I've heard about loose speaker enclosures ending up in the cabin. I wonder what she'll replace this car with? |

I would be too if I survived a crash like that.

I got t-boned in my C 30 when a guy ran a stop sign and all three airbags went off. The side of the car was pushed in so far that the curtain airbag and seat bolster bag were both in my face and made me feel like I was being smothered even though they were deflated. As soon as the car stopped spinning I was trying to get out of the seat but the belt was jammed. Freaky stuff. If they hadn't worked as well as they did I would almost certainly have had serious injuries on the entire left side of my body, as it ended up I jumped out of the car and went for the guy that hit me when he ran a stop sign. It took the cop that saw it and another driver that stopped to help to keep me from killing the guy.
Here's what happened when a woman in a nearly new CRV ran a stop sign at ~50mph and took me out in my 9 month old Challenger ![]() ![]() I was just driving along at a little under 30 taking my family apple picking at a local orchard and wham, airbag punched me in the face! I had no idea why. When it deflated I looked in front of me and there was nothing there. Her car had flown off the side of the road into the woods. Apparently the CRV took the hit just as well because the passenger and the kid in the car seat in the back came away without even a scratch. Crazy shit! Please stop at stop signs. Getting hit by an airbag sucks but its better than smashing your face on steering wheel. I got hit by a passenger side airbag and it felt like I got punched by mike Tyson

Tough girl, indeed. Glad to hear she made it.
My side curtain airbag deployed when I spun into a guardrail. I watched it come out in slow motion a millisecond before my head slammed into it. Nothing compared to this crash, but it was a humbling experience... car safety tech these days is amazing. Felt a special bond with the car after that. Couldn't wait to get another identical one (it was totaled)

The 1 inch dip of the front end was all I saw.
