damn, people are so desperate for a convertible version of this car.

All BS aside, I'm very happy to hear she made it out.

There must be a news report for that crash. Post a link if anyone finds it.

Airbags don't work that way.

you can definitely see where they sawed off the roof from the a,b,c-pillars cleanly. looks like the cabin structure held together decently overall otherwise.

I'm not saying an inflated airbag...I know they deflate. But what I think she was getting at was she had at least 3 deflated bags all around her...and the side curtain airbag may have been right in her face. The accident happened around the town of Jackson over the weekend so there may be something in the news about it.

But the air bag deflates almost as fast as it inflates. It is actually the act of it deflating that saves you not the inflation stage. If the inflating or fully inflated bag hits you in the face you might as well not even have it.
People picture it staying like as a big pillow but that is just not how they work. If out even for a second the bag would have looked like it does in the pics already.

Glad she's OK, but I'm wondering about seatbelts.

ETA: Bet that many gas generators going at once if friggin' noisy.

Not just airbags, events like this is why a regularly-driven street car should not have things like roll cages, 4-point harnesses, etc.

The airbags are part of an overall safety system.

I am so glad to hear the driver will be OK!

Those same airbags that saved this drive just get turned into high velocity cannons when things are attached to their housings.
Gauges on the A-pillar?
Yeah, probably not the safest place to add sharp edges in the cabin.

A small plastic emblem glued to that big, flat plastic cover in the center of the steering wheel?
I'm not very worried. If the airbag inflates that panel is going somewhere, fast, anyway. With or without the emblem.

The covers are retained, or are least supposed to be. Stock, anyway.

I'll get a clearer description from her on this aspect of it. I'm fairly certain she was describing a deflated bag that was in her face due to the side curtain and or/seat bag being pushed closer to her face. I'll clarify this in a bit

All's cool! I am just baffled why she would need to cut anything away since they are designed to get out of the way on their own. The company I work for makes them so I have a rational reason for my curiosity not just being argumentative (this time).

If I knew something about where the collision occured, I could find a report.

I did come across a sad report I forgot to set state parameters:
http://patch.com/maryland/columbia/p...arkway-crash-0

another kid didn't have repsect for the weather / road / car and killed themselves.

EDIT: oh... and this... http://www.scion.com/blog/advertisin...nd-the-scenes/

Yes! The key word being "stock". I see some of the things people glue on there and cringe because with the force those covers come off anything not really secure is going to come off. The problem could lie in it's trajectory when it parts company with the cover.

alls good I'm pretty sure the deflated bag was pushed into her face by the body damage...hard to tell since the roof is missing :/ But I'll sure ask her to be sure
