Once you trust they know where to be and when, they need to learn car control with the nannies off. Ideally give them time on a skidpad to figure it out in a safer place, but that's not always an option. Kinda related... any chance you'll be at the OTA event at Calabogie, hosted by MCO (August 1st/2nd)?

Thanks everyone for the advice. I will probably end up getting insurance just for peace of mind. I am pretty comfortable with the car, and my own limits. I think I'll probably start with everything on, and just start turning things off when I feel more confident with the course. Thunderhill seems pretty forgiving.
I'm still on the fence about camber bolts though. It makes sense how they would be useful, but would it really be necessary for someone who only goes to the track a couple times in a year? I would like to keep my car as stock as possible (aside from pads, fluids, tires, etc.). I also worry about the adjustment process with the bolts. I dont trust myself to make those kinds of changes to the suspension. Would it be beneficial to get an alignment on a stock car, or are they pretty dialed in from the factory? |

Adding bolts is easy, but you will need to get an alignment done if you do add them.
My two cents would be to get an alignment anyway, so adding the bolts at the same time would be easy for the shop to do. |

This is the wear/chunking I was seeing on my front tires without camber bolts (after a few track days on these tires):

AP Racing Pad Setup
Mike @ CSG..
Thanks very much for this thread, it has provided much help in setting up my car. I'm getting ready to purchase the AP Racing Spring kit... And I need a little help with the Pad setup, before I order. I'll need 2 sets of pads, street pads & track pads.. BRZ My wife and I have been heading out to Sebring about 5 or 6 weekends per year. Car sees about 3.5 hrs/day on the track. We have been running Cobalt XR2 pads, with RBF660 & TFWorks brake ducts, but the brakes are still smoking after a 30 min session. Definitely, time for the brake upgrade. We are both, for the most part Novices. Thanks, Michael |

Pistons that don't consistently retract when you're pushing them back in. Symptoms will be uneven brake pad wear (compare all the pads). Uneven brake pad wear on ALL the pads indicates you're going beyond the capability of the pads. Single pad or side uneven wear is a sign you may need a rebuild.

The only slightly related oil pan issue I know about is the oil pickup failing on other Subaru's.

Any recommendations for a tire with a minimum 220 tread wear rating?
