Strange sounding pop

Went to grab some food. Ate, got in the car. Put my right foot on the brake. Then I depress the clutch and I hear a loud pop. I pause. The words "what the phuck" flow through my mind. I look things over, nothing seems out of place. Start her up and drive her home. In my community, we have speed bumps, but they are the smooth wide ones that you don't have to crawl over. As I go over it i hear a clank from the rear. I've never owned a car that behaves this way before.

The clank noise is not good. Something could indeed be wrong there. Are you sure the loud pop didn't come when you released the E-brake? Sometimes setting and/or releasing it can cause a pop. Just a thought

Being honest, I can't remember but I don't think so given my normal start up sequence...

My normal sequence = foot on brake, button press, button press again so the gauges sweep [at this point it sounds like pumps start maybe priming the various systems???], confirm neutral, clutch in, button press to start the engine, clutch out, seatbelt, wait for warm up rev drop, clutch with gear selection, then handbrake.

I'll pay more attention to see if it might be the handbrake. Thanks for the input/feedback. The clank has me concerned.

Where is the sound coming from? Front or Rear?

I had a loud clunk a while ago coming from the rear as I started rolling the car out.....which I think is probably drivetrain slack? lol (only happened once but some ppl on forum mentioned they have it all the time.)

Ur Brz is auto right? Don't worry too much about it unless it gets really loud/occur very often. Our car have so little sound deadening it kind amplify any sound u get in the car.

I'd freak out too if that happened to me. Hopefully nothing serious has happened. But to hear a "clang" is just weird but if they say it happens all the time, then I guess it might be normal. For the record, it hasn't happened to me "yet".

If it's just a pop (like crumpling a plastic bottle), that could be the rear parcel shelf/trunk spot welds issue (known TSB). It would be triggered by low speed movements which twist the chassis, causing some areas which weren't welded properly to pop.
That wouldn't be an issue (simply an annoyance) and could be done under warranty.

If it's a louder clang, however, I'd be concerned.

Nope. 6mt. I'm trying not to worry too much.

Gonna have to look that TSB up to see what it says. Thanks.

So far it's just been that one time. Believe me when I tell you that I'm paying attention to all the lil sounds this car makes. Thanks for the reply.
