What I really hate are situations like one I have on my daily commute. There is this single lane road across a bridge that gets backed up for about half a quarter mile in the mornings. The problem is it splits to two lanes for probably only 1500 feet before the bridge, and goes back to one. People will get in that temporary right lane while traffic is going 5mph arcross the bridge just to pull in front of a few people, and try to merge back in to the stopped traffic. Sorry, I'm not letting you back in unless I think you did it without realizing thats how the road is. I want to get to work on time just like everyone eles. Most of the backup in this spot is people slowing down to let the people back in who just had to be 5 cars further ahead in the stopped car train. If everyone just stayed in the one lane, it would likely be faster.

A lot of times, slower drivers might think I'm trying to block them, but I'm really just cruising at a constant (faster) speed in the left lane. When they move to pass, not only are they going slower than me, but they're moving in a diagonal direction, which further slows their speed relative to mine. A lot of drivers don't understand that you need to accelerate when passing. The worst part is when they try to pull out anyway at the last possible second, leaving an unsafe amount of space between us and forcing me to hit my brakes.

This has happened so many times I just take control of the situation. I either:

1) Downshift and accelerate, making sure the gap is closed well before they try to enter. They can come in behind me where there's more room.

2) Assume (guess?) they'll want to come in and start letting off the gas preemptively to let them in.

Either way, I control the situation and make sure it's safe.

Was coming back from Detroit last week and they only had one toll booth open at the bridge.
There were 6 lanes of traffic fighting to merge for that one booth.
The outside right lane seemed to be the ones that were in the biggest rush and kept forcing their way across all the other lanes so none of the rest were even moving.
Finally a transport driver must have reached his breaking point and forced his way across and blocked the right lanes. He then shut his truck down and sat there while the others all took turns in an orderly polite fashion.
That guy was my hero!

I'm not really "that guy," but if the person is a "Driving idiot" (aka no signals, broken lights, lights not on in bad weather), I may turn into a driving troll for a minute.

Example: People psychologically will keep pace with traffic, so I slowly speed up until they are speeding with me, then let off the gas and let them cruise into an area that there is usually a cop running a speed trap. But, again, only if they are an a-hole.

Here's my rules:
- Use the $%@#@ turn signal
- If I have to hit my brakes, you're an asshole and shouldn't have pulled out.
- The space between cars for a safe distance is NOT room for you to pull into.
Haha fair questions.
I signalled and accelerated. The SUV was about 2 lengths back (and at steady speed or dropping back) but the moment he/she saw my turn signals, they floored it.

I call these individuals passholes. The only time I do this is when I notice a driver constantly changing lanes and tailgating and cutting off other cars. At that point I proceed to match the speed of surrounding cars in attempt to box them in.

You try that on me I'd cut in front of you and pull my hand brake.

I think you missed what he was saying.

*Edit - Or maybe not, I'm not sure which situation he is referring to now that I think about it.

Why the hell would you pull your handbrake at highway speeds? Oh, no tail lights, I get it! You're even more of an asshole than I am!

I will speed up if someone is trying to use my safety cushion as an opportunity to change lanes, IF* there is ample room BEHIND me to change lanes.

That is called an unsafe lane-change and is illegal.

There are only a couple places and occasions where I'll block someone or not let them pass. Like if I'm supposed to yield to oncoming traffic, I'll purposely take extra time to be sure I'm safe if someone is honking behind me or proceed slowly especially lately with all the slush on the ground. The other is an on-ramp right before my exit that is long and wide so everyone merging doesn't really yield and zooms straight to the front. Local drivers know to block them for being assholes. The bigger shitheads won't merge at all and just drive in the emergency lane.

I'll totally go out of my way to box in a speeding lane-changing tailgater though. Otherwise, it's not worth it to me to possibly get into an accident because someone wants to be an asshole. Not to say I don't give them the finger though...haha. I go out of my way to make sure they see it too. I'm also not above rolling down my window to give them a piece of my mind.

I lied about not doing it... just did it today on the way to work

but only because there was a relatively small space in front of me and this douchenozzle zipping around in my rear-view mirror was no doubt just trying to shove in any empty space he could find, only to smash the brakes and force me to do so as well so... yeaaaa, f*ck that. Get in line like everyone else, n00b

Those guys that jump into an entrance/exit at the last minute piss me off, I'm the guy that block them if I have the chance. Sometimes, like now, when the lanes are narrow because of the snow it can be challenging but oh so satisfying when it really comes together. A few days ago I saw one about to happen and I had a choice to take the snowbank head on at about 25mph or throw the block, I threw it like a champ Stuck my tail out and the dude freaked. He launched off the snowbank on the side of the road into a field at about 40mph, caught a couple of feet of air and put his front bumper through the radiator in a blast of snow and steam. I was so glad the light was green ahead of me and I could just keep rolling and never had to deal with somebody that was probably super angry

Congrats, you caused an accident, property damage and possibly bodily injury if the accident happened as you described. You are "that guy."
