In my case the MR2 was not a special order. I happened to be at the dealership to look at a Toyota pickup when the carrier came in, I saw it and said "What is it, and how much?" I had a deposit down pending test drive by the time they loaded it off the truck.

It really was love at first sight.

Both cars were fine. I wouldn't worry about it much.
A lot of our Volkswagens have around 5-40 miles on them as well, i think they're rolled around a lot prior to delivery

..........I don't get why some of you are so insistent on some stranger driving your car for 10-12 miles before he gives the dealer the OK to sell you the car.
7 of my new deliveries were cars I ordered, the other two were off the lot. Trust me, I understand the possessive nature of ordering your own personal car. That said, just for perspective, the more expensive the car, the less virgin it is when you finally get it. Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Bugatti are all typically bespoke built cars, not just a short option lists like ours. In the case of our FR-S/BRZ, there are virtually no options other than color and transmission, as such the specification isn't unique or original. Yes it may have your name on the documentation, but the factory isn't custom building the car for you. You didn't have a several hour sit-down meeting with a color coordinator to determine what texture leather you'd like to have and what color stitching you prefer on the steering wheel versus the center console. See what I'm getting at?

I don't think anybody here is insisting some grungy monkey mechanic hoon our cars around the block at full oppo. We're just accepting that it's going to happen. FWIW, the dealership and/or the OEM are legally obligated to disclose any pre-delivery damage over $500. Such a low dollar amount likely means any paint work or notable repair have to be disclosed prior to delivery, at which point you're of course free to reject delivery. Other than that, chances are said monkey mechanic will more correctly continue breaking-in your engine than any overly paranoid and under-experienced n00b ever could.

Finally, please talk to your dealer and express your concern for PDI joyrides. Any dealership worth their salt wouldn't mind you overseeing it coming off the truck and straight into the bay where they remove the shipping film, spring blocks, and the like.

Oh, I totally understand, and those car should be subjected to a lengthy shakedown and inspection for the price your paying and perhaps the performance and reliability they are expected to deliver. Believe me, I know I'm not buying a high performance luxury car. Why would I even compare their buying experiences to that of a 28,000 dollar car???? Veyrons, Bentleys and Rolls Royces are obviously totally different buying experiences.

Oh I know, I only want to ensure that worst case scenario it doesn't happen to my car, that is all. I guess I just have less faith in people at the dealership needlessly shaking down my cookie cutter car.

I already planned on doing this next time I spoke to her.
