Isn't 6-10 miles on a new car kinda high?

I've read through all the threads of people that have already received their BRZ/FR-S's and people are mentioning them having anywhere from 6-10 miles on them. This concerns me, because back when I purchased my 07 Sti limited off the showroom floor it had 4 miles on the clock and that was with a supposed test drive from the person who ordered it but couldn't finance it. I'm expecting my BRZ on order to have pretty close to the same. I gave the dealership specific orders to not let anyone drive it or put the license plate holder on the front. I'm eventually going to tell them when I finally get my ETA that they can go ahead and just leave the plastic sheeting on the car, to not wash it, and not to bother filling her up as well.

I guess I'm kinda being paranoid........I had to take my Sti in to the dealer about a month after getting it because I couldn't take the loud squealing my brakes constantly made when stopping. The dealer told me my front brake pads were cracked and needed to be replaced. He told me that it was from heating them up too much before they were broken in. I had babied the car from day 1, so I was certain that it was from whatever asshat that drove the car before I bought it.

In your experiences what has the mileage been on the cars you picked up brand new?

How can a car that goes from a factory --> truck -->boat -->truck -->dealership rack up 6-10 miles without someone driving it a bit?

No.

No.

Every car gets driven a few miles. Off the assembly line, onto a truck/train, off the truck/train, onto a boat, off the boat, onto a port holding area, off the port holding area, onto a truck, off the truck, onto a dealer lot, off the dealer lot to a gas station, back onto a dealer lot, onto a lift to get PDI'd, off the lift, onto the road for a 3-4 mile roadtest, back onto the dealer lot. After ALL THAT is when you pick the car up and yes, it will have a few miles on it.

I'd have to assume someone at the dealership drove it. Though I don't know that 6-10 is really high ... I've seen sales people do stupid things with someone else's future car plenty of times. One friend of mine who sold used cars for a time would actually street race cars that came on his lot ...

I'm down with telling them to leave the car completely alone personally, plastic sheets and everything...

I honestly don't see the difference between 4 miles and 6-10 miles. Some dealers are miles from a gas station, so that could account for the mileage on the odometer. There is also some minor driving to/from the trucks and so forth.

Not at all.

Mine had 10 miles. It arrived at the dealer, they stuck it inside way back in the corner, and it sat there until I arrived. They didn't even fill it up with gas until I bought it, and even then they just followed me to the gas station.

6-10 miles is nothing. If it had 20 miles or more I'd be upset, since no one should had test driven it. But sometimes the cars are moved around the lot in addition to all the other scenarios mentioned.

Gas station at my dealership would make sense for about 4 miles if they aren't getting cheepo gasoline. the test route they drive is about 6 miles for an average test.

TBH, I'm more concerned with the holes in the bumper.

anything less than 10-15 or so is pretty typical IMO.

I picked up mine with 6 miles on the odo

luxmn 05-14-2012 05:10 PM

mine had 12 at pick up so this is normal. I know how you feel, I felt the same way 3 months ago.
