This is utter BS. Timing is determined by the cam and crank sensors. The ECU reads them and determines where the engine is in it's cycle and operates accordingly. In order for the timing to be "Off" requires either a bad sensor or the cam gears to be physically misaligned when they were installed. A third ECU is not going to solve the issue.

The fact that a second ECU had the same problem points to the engine, not to another ECU. And an inability to rest an ECU's "timing" is just an outright lie. You pull power to the car, step on the brake pedal, and the ECU will lose all learned values and revert to factory defaults when power is restored. It will then re-learn the engine.

That dealership is manned by either idiots, or old-school techs who can't adapt to modern engines. Find another dealership.
