FWIW, I think the BRZ with fresh tires and a ballsier driver is a 1:27 car in the state it was in when the video was taken. I was taking a very conservative approach as I did not want to risk an off with the car at WSIR. Randy drives the cars in a similar manner; to someone familiar with WSIR, you can see where he leaves time on the table to guarantee that there will not be an incident with the cars. This is also why he has such a huge amount of respect, and why he is offered these types of opportunities. |

It's just a function of the car being so damn heavy... 3x the HP of a FRS (assuming GTR has minor bolt-ons and a tune) means approximately 3x the fuel consumption. I have no problem burning 4-5 gallons in 20 minutes at the track; the GTRs I coach usually run through a tank (~13 gal), and run 100 octane to protect the engine. Just how the FRS's brakes are a bit undersized for track duty (but way oversized for street tury), the GTR's brakes are also a bit undersized... You get the idea. There are several GTR owners/former GTR owners on this board that can verify this... they bought a FRS/BRZ to have a cheaper track toy. If you think a GTR is expensive to track, you should see the cost of tracking a 458 Challenge.... 3x the car cost, but a weekend can easily run 25k. |

Maybe play with tire pressures and shock settings until power-down isn't terrible like it seems in that video?? The Nissan is in deficit of power, torque, weight, brakes, aero, tires, cg and probably more. The only thing I can think of off hand in Nissan's favor is 4WD. I guess 4WD is magic. |

I know he didn't use 130 gallons worth of fuel and the rest of the costs don't apply as he did it was his first event in the GTR. I'm sure as he continues, he'll end up racking up more costs. I do know he's about to get a set of wheels with Toyo R888s though for track duty.

Just asked my Dad and this is what he told me: "Here's what we're seeing: Most people use stock Dunlops $2100/set or Toyo R888s $1550/set installed In both cases, they last two full track days for most people. After four track days, oil change time. With ECU/TCM tuning, we set clutch contact points at "2." No one driving a 2013-up model is going in for fluid changes beyond oil after tracking. We all do it at 18,000 miles. Front rotors $1100. You get about six full track days out of them. Brake pads are $375. They last at least six track days."

As far as the fluid changes go, basically the pre/post inspections themselves are free. The ECU logs how hot everything got, and if you hit level 5, then a fluid change is mandated to keep the factory warranty. You need to be a fairly experienced driver to be hitting level 5 consistently, but once you're there.... you can't reduce the heat without investing some serious money into cooling. A transmission cooler is virtually mandatory for tracking the car in automatic, even with a novice driver if the driver is getting any sort of coaching. |
