The hill assist can be turned OFF with the VDC (whatever Subaru calls it).
I love this hill climb feature, no I don't need it but yes I do want it. SO IS THIS A STANDARD FEATURE??? |

Hill assist makes me stall 100% of the time. Just move your feet fast bro.

I hope if there is a Hill Holder that it can be turned off or disabled. I've heard of too many people killing their clutches because of a hill holder system that doesn't release quickly enough. I have no problem starting on a hill with just my feet. I don't want some nanny trying to do it for me.

As far as disabling it goes: yes the WRX can't disable it, but in an interesting move by Subaru, the STI can.

It better be there, its been in every MT subaru I have driven and owned.
Brat, XT6, Loyale, Legacy, WRX, Impreza. Its what makes a Subaru. lol The 2 cars i owned; XT6 and Loyale; the hill stop has never malfunctioned, and my 89 XT6 is currently my DD. I assume the AT have it as well but i have never tested to see if it was there. |

I avoid hills or steep inclines cuz its annoying to do.
But if worse comes to worse i use my handbrake. Do i want one? No, cuz whenever i do hit a hill/steep incline i WANT to make sure i can start the car without spinning the tires

I have NEVER stalled my Subarus with this. In fact it actually works very well.
But my BRZ does NOT have this. I thought it might, so lets put this thread to bed, it doesn't have it, so there is no reason to worry about it! |

Hills in Seattle with FR-S
I checked the FRS owners manual, there is nothing in there on any type of hill holding.
On Friday I found myself in downtown Seattle where some of the hills are almost as bad as San Francisco. I had to use the emergency brake and release it as the clutch engaged. I didn't notice any type of hill holding feature. As for just switching pedals really quick, on those type of hills I would be going quickly backwards if I didn't use emergency brake as the hill is about a 30% grade. |

In Canada, hill holder is included for the BRZ:
"6-speed Manual Transmission (6MT) with Hill Holder system" - from spec sheet PDF, dated April 20/2012 |

had one in my m3 and back to without one in my mazda 3. It was ok and got use to it but dont miss it being gone. I could see it being nice for the newbie clutch driver which I am guessing a lot of FR-s and BRZ might be.
