Hey everyone,
So I had the opportunity to take the BRZ to the track for the first time last weekend. It had been over a year since I last saw the track, but MAN it was fun! Reminded me why I love this car so much. Got a little carried away and cooked the brakes a bit though...too many hotlaps. ![]() Another clip following an M3 and then WRX onto the back straight: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdpTlvIvg1g"]BRZ onto back straight, M3 and WRX - YouTube[/ame] Last edited by Dammod; 02-04-2015 at 12:38 PM. |

Looked at the sms notification from killarney with a sad heart. Do you know when the next one is?

I had a look at the pics on http://www.raceweb.co.za/2015/trackday-31-01/ for the Killarney track day - some very nice photos there.
Very sad to see an 86 in the tyre barrier and a 350Z on it's roof. ![]() Reminders that the risks of tracking are very real...

I spoke to the driver of the 350z, he said there was something on the track at the "kink" and the back just snapped around. You will see me tap off there slightly in the vid I posted. I had his words in the back of mind mind as I was going around ![]() I imagine a RWD car being much more susceptible to fluid on the track then a AWD car such as my Impreza that I am used to, so a little hesitant with things like that. A Cape Town member was actually chatting to him before his accident. The 86 owner was telling him how he impressed he was with the handling of his(86) car. The 350z owners reply and last words were "You think thats good?...you should try driving a 350z!"

Hit fluid in a Scoobie and it just understeers right into the bush albeit in a nicely controlled manner, but it still goes off. I've never driven a 350Z, but I had a long chat with a guy in the pit next to me at Zwartkops with a supercharged 350Z. He says it's very nose-heavy and handles like a tank. It was raining heavily that day, and he only did 3 laps of the Z in the rain, then packed up because he reckoned his car was totally unmanageable.

Found it. I knew I'd seen a video of his somewhere.
Here's a dry lap of Zwartkops in that guy's s/c 350z. This lap is about 1m19. He's got about 400whp, I've got about 230whp, and I'm quicker than him around the Z, so I have little doubt that my car's a lot quicker through the corners. Once the track quitened down a bit I turned off TC completely on one of the slower corners and practiced getting the back out a bit and then controlling it. I must say, VSC spot is a nice "in-beteen"...it lets the rear go just far enough that you can feel the dynamics of the car. Quote:
Sho that things pretty decent in a straight though, like you said, you must drill him in the corners.

Just had another day on the skidpan in my 86 with its new tyres. Huge difference - turn-in is far sharper and the back steps out more progressively. I was worried the slightly grippier tyres would detract from the car's tail-happy nature but I can safely say it has improved the on-the-limit control nicely. Grip under braking also is improved with less ABS interference noticed.
So my verdict - Yokohama AVS dB V550C's are good on my Std 86! Their lifespan has yet to be discovered! ![]() After nearly 2.5 years and 53000+ km I still love my car! ![]()

I got meself some gloves, colour-coded nogal
![]() They aren't fireproof - just intended to reduce the wear on my steering wheel which is taking some serious strain when I'm on track. The semis that I use now (RE11S), combined with some negative camber, have made my steering very heavy at the limit. I'm OK with that - the feedback and control is excellent, but it's tiring and hard on the steering wheel. I don't know if I'll be able to get used to gloves. I've never driven with them so I've got some reservations. They feel good though - nice and soft.
