And who can put up video clips of mixing it with a world champion on a racetrack?
I CAN!!

Devin practicing - taken from my car on 14 Sept at Midvaal.
It would have been real cool if I'd passed him, but that'll only happen in my dreams - LOL

These clips are from different sessions - at least he didn't pass me twice in one heat.
Sad that video doesn't convey the intensity of the moment.
It's exhilirating experiences like this that keep drawing me back to racetracks.

don't suppose there are any track days coming up i might be able to get a right along on ?

visiting cape town, ladysmith and joburg. see this is nearby joburg, will be there 2/15 to 2/18.

Unlikely that I'll be in Gauteng over those dates, but I'll let you know if I am.

Try Googling Zwartkops Raceways calendar - they have a SuperTrax day every month.

Roy Hesketh Racetrack at Pietermaritzburg yesterday...

I've heard KZN guys saying "we don't have a racetrack down here".
Well, you do.
And it's great, with lots of history, plenty challenge to it, and it's very informal and ideal for 86 playing.

I was on brand new road tyres, so I took it easy, but it was a hell of a lot of fun nevertheless.

For the guys used to flat tracks, this circuit has some serious elevation changes, banked corners with off-camber exits, a scary little off-camber kink onto the back straight which is a quick downhill squirt to 180+ with downhill braking.
Sure, it's very different to the mainstream Gauteng tracks. Don't expect a fire truck and ambulance on stand-by. Also, it takes a while getting used to having big trees alongside the track.

And for me the weirdest thing was that you enter the track property at the top hairpin, check nothing's coming, then drive onto the track and head around half a lap to get to the clubhouse/pits area. How cool is that.

Here's pics of the clubhouse, me exiting Quarry corner, and me on the bottom straight - which is actually a sweep.

When I get home I'll upload a video clip.

I like it - a lot.
Advice for the KZN boys - contact the owner Mike Fogg on zero eight two 931 4892 - you'll have a ball and it won't cost you a bomb either.

A lap of Roy Hesketh at Pietermaritzburg.

The sound is poor because I had my window open - the heat was killer.

My camera has a bit of a fish-eye lens so the corners appear less sharp and less banked than they actually are. The uphills and downhills also appear less than what they are. Half way around the lap you'll see a brave pedestrian - the same one as in my other clip in the dashcam randoms thread, but at a different spot.

They are part of the track. It is the next level of driver skill.

What kind of a track is that? Trees right at the circuit, pedestrians walking by with their grocery shopping

I expected to see some cows grazing at the side.

I didnt even know that track existed.
