2.33" (The didn't have a 65mm so this will do to stop the leak)

Ok, I am running a custom tune Openflash wrote for me. Issues... My cut snorkle was great for stock, but causes a weird negative pressure situation and *VERY* turbulent air. This translates into less power than I could have on the same tune. Solutions: A) find / buy a stock snorkle for the vehicle. B) Build my own intake using JCWhitney.com aluminum tubing and someone who can weld (This would replace my AEM and look similar to a moshimito intake). C) Deal with it.

Sadly I am stuck with C for right now unless someone has a snorkle lying about. Meh.

** BUTT DYNO **
People say you will have a placebo effect and start to feel extra power. People said it would be night and day. Maybe I expected exactly what I got? I'm definately not disappointed. I am running a modified version of the 2.063 map which was made specifically for 91 octane use and while I am not feeling some massive power difference or like the vehicle has "come alive". I am, however, feeling and seeing a few key things.

The torque dip is significantly less, while still present. The acceleration is smoother, which has caused it to feel almost slower though it's certainly not. I'm just not sure it's any quicker. The deep, ear molesting growl my engine bay had from the intake and snorkle modifications are all but gone as well. This was an unexpected side effect.

When I drive, I tend to sit a little higher in the power band than my wife. For me, the feeling is pretty smooth and feels "Normal" under standard driving conditions. My wife, letting me play like a child last night, drove for almost an hour while I data logged and I noticed that between 1670 - 2050 rpm there is a slight rumble to the vehicle that feels less smooth. Standard driving conditions applied, only more passive because that's her driving. Where I shift at 4-5k ish in general driving, she shifts at 3k almost religiously. (4k when entering a freeway). That lower RPM still feels smooth and has actually made the vehicle feel more balanced when clutch work comes into play.

My compression is a little higher, sitting at 13.0:1 vs 12.5:1 WOT -- not sure if this is because of the almost 45 degrees of advancement the engine does now WOT, but the there is not knock. KC LEAN (for you tuners) still holds at 0, though it peaks at 3.19 during full throttle.

Ultimate analysis: While under standard driving conditions, the change is minimal and almost unfelt, minus torque dip. The real push comes from 4,700 - 6,700 RPM (the meat of the power curve) and this is where I feel like I am actually putting more power to the floor.

Anyone curious to drive Emi, I will have her had the wednesday meet. All I ask is for someone to let me use a stock tuned vehicle to run up on exit on the freeway and back so I can see if I can directly compare the difference.

EDIT:: Sorry for the wall of text

Yes. I have an entirely stock exhaust, actually. Minus the Manzo overpipe. (Got it for $40 from Manzo to write a review for them almost a year ago now)

Intake is an AEM intake with a cut factory snorkle. No other power modifiers or adders. no light weight cranks, fly, or pullies.

Virtually stock

I'm sure you've read about headers having a tendency to smooth out the rest of the torque dip. Do you have any plans?

Great question. I plan on getting a UEL header when I can afford it for the low-end power / torque gains and I plan to fix the Air intake issue I am having. As of right now, I think I'll be keeping the stock exhaust (cat-back) and I have no plans of going FI. Total goal for the vehicle was 15% gains over stock (This would be ~25hp / ~20 torque)

no other power adders / bolt ons planned at this time.

lol... remember on that tech day when you cut that when I was telling you about the turbulence issue induced by modifying the snorkel on that intake? :P IIRC they had actually done CFD with the oem snorkel to make it more efficient without having to remove the snorkel. Also making your own intake is a bit of work to get a clean maf, and one that actually performs well. And without a dyno or extensive logging for pressure differences & flow it is hard to gauge if it is actually being a positive performing component or not. I would just search around for another snorkel from one of the forced induction guys, surely there is someone around that is in denial they may ever need it again that will let you have it for a couple of bucks. If I could remember who I loaned mine to I would loan you mine until you could find one but unfortunately I cant even remember who I handed it to. =/

HOLY SHIT! I WILD NELSMAR APPEARS!

I thought you were just a figment of imagination. never hear from you anymore. haha. the stock map showed significantly less turblence in the air, but once I changed to a stage 1 tune, I knew immidiately there were issues. I can actually hear it from 3600 - 4200 rpm... the sound of air slapping. It's ugly.

when I get some time, I will probably log a "standard drive" with the FLKC, FBKC, Ign. Timing, RPM, IAM, STFT, and LTFT and upload that into Datazap. I don't know if ECUtek uses the same parameters, but if you'd like to see it (or anything else I can log) just let me know what you want to see and I'll upload it to datazap so you can see the graph.

I'm really interested in feeling the uel+tune. But if I end up being able to make it out to the meet on Wednesday you can take mine on the on ramp if you're interested. Perrin CAI and 3 inch cat-back with no tune

I sure hope to make it also. No issues swapping vehicles to gauge a side by side difference

I might try. I have UEL headers, AP overpipe/frontpipe, INVIDIA n1 catback, lightweight pulleys...no tune.
