I'd recommend on revising your whole approach to MT, watch some youtube videos, get a friend who is confident in driving a stick, search/ask for some tips here. I'm with you as well, with this being my first stick car. Hope you learn from your mistakes.
I don't understand why some of you guys keep saying "should of bought a manual" on this forum.

Hmm....

<raises hand> Um, hang on a sec.

OP, have you done anything with the clutch adjustment prior to this issue? If your master piston is not allowed to fully extend you may be pumping up the slave. I learned my lesson the hard way with another car a loooong time ago.

Wait a second, firstly I'm talking about this specific thread. If you buy an automatic car, you have your reasons (be it injury, spouse driving, etc) and it's none of my business. However, when someone comes on a thread and taunts the OP about how they should have picked the other transmission only because someone else said that to you...well

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a manual transmission hero. But you have to admit there's a difference in pushing gas and going, to slipping the clutch and finding that perfect mixture to get going (at least for a new driver, I'm aware some of this is second nature for some of you). The original poster bought the car, despite how hard it might be to believe, to learn and have fun with a MT. He made the decision, that's the end of that. If everyone just buys the automatic without first trying the manual, well then the manual is sure to die off soon.

Also, it's "should have" not "should of". Sorry, this is a common error I see.

Got any gear head buddies?

Replacing a clutch on a RWD car in a driveway is a good experience imo, and you'll save yourself about $400-$500 in labor, aside from jackstands a jack and a torque wrench you should have everything else (couple sockets, wrenches, hands, and a noggin).

In any case lesson learned hopefully you figure out what happened and your next clutch lasts longer.

Edit: The 'in any case' is subtle tip off that nobody would think less of you for going to a shop to have the work done, definitely comparison shop though, the dealership will likely overcharge parts and labor on this particular job because it is a rarity for them to perform in this day and age.

^^this^^ By far the best way to gain respect for what the clutch does is to get in there and replace it yourself.

You can dooo eeeeet!

This isn't how it works. You can shift at any of those RPM's without the clutch slipping. If it is slipping at 2.5k RPM, you are riding the clutch for too long.

Give the guy a break. He's learning. You learn by making mistakes. Expensive mistake but a good learnt one at that.

At least he didn't put the car jnto 6th gear on a 5 speed manual transmission. 😂

Now OP are we gonna learn not to ride the clutch after this? Hehe jk

I taught 3 high school age daughters to drive in manual tranny cars (2 in 914's and 1 in an MR2). I taught my wife at age 45 to drive a manual in a Nissan Hardbody. None of them ever did any noticeable damage to any of those vehicles.

Unless you repeatedly pull off in a gear other than 1st, or continously ride the clutch, it would be difficult to wear out a clutch in such a short period of time.
I agree. I have never fried a clutch in such short order.
Even with zero experience, I find it hard to believe you can kill a clutch that quickly without noticing.
Did you smell something similar to burning carpet every time you got out of the car?
That's what I would expect if it was actually driver error.

How about a shot with 2 914's in it?

I taught my son & daughter in the BRZ and the son has driven the 914.
If you can learn to drive stick in a 914, then you can drive ANY stick.
(for those who dont know: the stock 914 is rated as one of the worst shifting configurations EVER)

I learned to drive standard on a 16 year old 56 Ford wagon, 3 on the tree.
Talk about interesting!
Pretty sure that with every shift the next gear was in a different and new location and your left leg was bigger than your right from the exercise.

Thank fuck someone finally said this. On another forum I'm on (BMX) I made mention that on my previous car, I took it to the shop to get the O2 sensors done. The rain of shit that came down on me was hilarious. Some people need to realize that not everyone has a) the space b) the time c)the desire d) the tools to do the job. Mine was a combination of B and C, due to me working on the road for 28 or so days of the month. I want to come home and not spend my free time working under a car that was going to be replaced in the next year, and especially one that I didn't overly care for.

AHMEN to that!
I have been crapped on more then once even here because I actually have somebody else do my maintenance and other work.
What am I gonna do, lay in the snow and change my oil because I don't think the guy at the dealership that does it 30 or 40 times a day knows what he is doing?????
