My 3 driving rules:
- The left lane belongs to me, and if you're not exceeding the speed limit by an acceptable margin you have no business using it.
- If you brake first, you're yellow and that gives me moral right of way.
- No quarters asked, none given.

I haven't crashed anyone undeserving since 1997, so it's a pretty good system.

That sounds like the creepy kind of politeness they practice in Australia.
People there told me, repeatedly and very politely; "We obey speed limits and road signage here. But you can turn left on a red light. If you're careful."
They only stopped being polite when I forgot to drive on the wrong side of the road.

PDX also has the "politeness" problem. Unless you are riding a bicycle.

In Germany, on the other hand, everyone drives very fast and aggressively.
Makes me comfortable, I blend in with ease.

speaking of people sucking at driving... some jackass almost hit me trying to get into my lane without checking his mirrors on my way to class this morning. luckily i was able hit the brakes and save my baby. worst part about it was his Lexus GX (maybe LX) having the blind spot detectors too -_-

There are plenty speed limits in Germany... ;-)
And please don't bring your religion into this.

Even worse in some cases!
Ever take a10 foot wide army truck down a 10 foot 2 inch wide road between stone walls?
