I loved that film when I first saw it though I doubt it would be as impressive now.

1 year = time it takes the earth to do a lap of the sun.
So if a dog lives for 5 laps then dog has lived 5 years. There is no "equivalence" involved. There is no "Fido lived for 4 laps so therefore Fido lived 28 human years".
