Dealer has unclaimed BRZ's

I've been thinking about this car a lot, I went to one of the showings a month back and got to see it in person but obviously couldn't drive it. Today I received two e-mails from dealers, one saying they had 4 unclaimed premium MT BRZ's in various colors (including WRB), and from another dealer who said the buyer backed out of his galaxy blue MT premium (both are arriving on their June allocation).

Now the dealer with 4 BRZ's charges a $500 non-refundable deposit, while the dealer with the galaxy blue requires a refundable $500 deposit. I spoke with both and honestly I would much rather deal with the dealer who has the refundable deposit, he was cool about the whole thing saying if I put my deposit down I can come in, test drive it, and if I don't like it I can walk away and get my deposit back. The only thing is I would prefer WRB over the galaxy blue, but it's still a pretty nice color. It's a bit of a gamble, I can hope that if I pass on this there will be more unclaimed cars in July and August, although I take the chance that there may not be any for a while. Thoughts?

This is a personal choice but I would never put a non-refundable deposit down on a car, and would never purchase a car from a dealership that required one. If the deposit required for the 1st86 program had been nonrefundable, I would not have participated in it.

The dealer knows they can sell whatever car they get in, a nonrefundable deposit is not necessary.

Agreed. If you're like me, it'll bug you enough. If you have any doubts, just pass on it and wait for the exact one you want. Considering you're buying used and you're paying for new, you might as well get EXACTLY what you want. Also, if you've made it this far without a BRZ and are not in dire need of one, I would suggest passing on it. Easier said than done, I understand, but the payoff will be good. Trust me.:happy0180:

That's very true about the color, I'd hate driving past WRB BRZ's on the street thinking "I wish I had that color". I'll send an e-mail to the dealer with the WRB and see if I can put a refundable deposit down instead (I'll make sure to get that in writing), but I doubt they will.

I really would also like the limited over the premium..

But I agree. I still think I'm going to go back and forth on WRB and LR for the life of the car ... haha, oh well... maybe I'll trade in for a new model again in a couple years.

Just as I thought. Just because there's a high demand for the preorder doesn't equate to actual sales. People will back out for many reasons. It's a 500 refundable deposit, which means there's no harm in preordering from the buyer's perspective.

I would love to be one of the first people to drive a BRZ, but I don't want to settle, or overpay. I hope you're right, and I think that after most of the pre-orders sell dealers will actually be sitting on BRZ's. At least around here most dealers still have quite a few slots left and are already receiving cars without a buyer.

I drive a 2011 Legacy now so I'm not hurting by waiting a few months, besides who knows what the next WRX will look like

So if see what I like passing by the dealerships I might give in and just get a BRZ instead of waiting for next years model if people are going to back out of their pre-orders.

I was afraid to put a non-refundable deposit down as well, but I had to wait til price was released and at this point you should know if you want the car or not. You could also test drive the galaxy blue brz, then if its all good get your deposit back and go put it on the wrb brz?

GBS is the most amazing colour. I'd put down your refundable deposit there and watch yourself fall in love with the colour once you see it in real life. If you see the car and it's really not for you I'd get your $500 back.

I, personally, would never give a non-refundable deposit. There's too many factors that could lead to you maybe losing out on your money. What would happen if he tried imposing an admin fee of $500 or something? Then you're looking at having to spend an extra $500 or losing out on your original $500. What if the car got damaged in shipping and a replacement was going to take another 3 months? You either give up your $500 or wait it out.

Grim thoughts. I wish a GBS was available for me.
