so yes or no on tiny revs depending on the gear?
If I just gas off/clutch in/gas fast on 6th gear (without easing out a little) I still get a bit of shudder.

I usually do a little pre-rev on 4th gear since it guarantees smoothness.. same with 2nd gear.

Somebody give me a standard answer so I can figure out which way I need to commit for muscle memory

If you want less shudder then always engage with the engine revs higher than matched. If you engage with revs lower than matched it pitches everything forward. The goal is to rev match every shift but it's certainly smoother to engage from higher rpm rather than lower.

Thanks for the reply.

How much of a damage on the clutch are we talking about by doing this?

In this past month of learning how to drive MT I've done this so many times (the pre-rev thing) and I'm a bit worried

It's a lot better than cosntantly jerking forward from having lower revs during the upshift though

clutches are made to take a certain amount of wear but will wear down eventually. you wont be doing detrimental damage to it but you should work on rev matching better and smoother shifts.

I'm just trying to figure out what's the right way since there are so many different ways of driving that is supposedly correct... I mean just google how to drive Manual and you'll find so many different ways it's "taught"

According to your profile you don't even own the car yet, so why are you telling owners what we should and shouldn't discuss on a forum for discussing our cars?

Again, I've been driving MT for 10 years and I still had questions about the nuances of MT in an unfamiliar car. As you said.. drop your old beliefs, adapt new ones.. that's what we're trying to do. How can you practice new techniques if you are unsure of what those techniques should be?

just picked up my brz 2 weeks ago.. this post gave me such a sense of belonging.. i thought i was the only one! haha

in the last 2 weeks I have been made to look a fool several times in traffic/in front of neighbors etc.

I hope practice makes perfect because this clutch is so temperamental at the moment with my stump feet

I figured that revving the engine a bit while letting the clutch out so that you're rev matching would be better for the clutch.

After all, that shift is smoother since your revving made the engine and the transmission spin at a closer speed right? To me that sounds like less wear on the clutch.

But anyway, I've had similar issues with everyone else here and just figured its because I'm new at MT. My BRZ usually lets me know when I'm being dumb by letting me smell my clutch from the interior >_>

It gets better.

I had a friend who gave me some tips and the trick is to ease it out right before it grabs. Having it in the right rpm zone is important too.

If my dumbass can get better at it over a couple months, I'm sure others can too!

Im getting a bit better when shifting ( i had the car for about 2 weeks, only driven it 500 miles).

What i need to practice more is the downshifting and rev matching. I can rev match most of the gears pretty good, except when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It always jerks when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd. Im trying to rev the engine higher and letting the clutch out slower, but still need more practice.

Other than that i love driving this car, its awesome. Many people claim this car is slow, it doesnt feel slow to me, it feels very responsive. Never driving manual cars before other than the BRZ.
