SilverlightPony, I appreciate the time you took to explain.

This is how the OEM brackets on the gt86 look like:

it's not only shorter, but the mounting holes are also located differently than what you have. to complicate things, it has four of those annoying little bumps, as opposed to only apparently two on the fr-s.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of those 4 bumps, NONE of them match any of the holes on the ca-fi when I allign the brackets in the correct position. To make things worse, I'm also travelling for a couple of weeks, so I have a limited set of tools. The only things I can try are either a metal file, or a serious hammer.

From the looks of it, the mounting position in the picture is wrong, anyway. I think the brackets should sit about 1 cm towards the back of the unit, from where they are right now. However, the bumps will still not fit any of the holes on the side of the ca-fi.

The good thing about Mirror Link is that you dont have to tether the internet from the phone (Battery saved). That is what I think anyway..? Is there another way to mirror your phone to the screen? Third party app or so.

Ah, yeah, that's way different. I think you're correct in that yours needs to move back by about 1cm. As for getting rid of the alignment nubs, drilling or Dremel-ing them out is the best option, but it sounds like that's not an option at the moment. The file would be my suggestion, if you can't wait.

Just copy the update folder to your sd card's root directory. insert your card then restart the hu. it starts automatically updating and deletes all your data. By the way this file has nothing to do with my car. There's different rom for with canbus version "hu"s. I got my rom with canbus from Will but it's not rooted and i dont know how to root... The only difference between without and with canbus version roms are only "bluetooth".

Hmm, sounds strange. Can you check and post your Bluetooth version?

Filing the nubs was a lot easier than expected - the brackets are made of some very soft alloy. All 8 nubs filed down in 15 minutes. This is what it looks like, finally mounted - waiting for opinions if this is the correct position:

Next question is - does this unit accept unsigned software, without rooting? I'm not an android fan, but I remember that android usually has a check box for allowing untrusted software to be installed. is this available on the ca-fi?

Looks right to me. If the bottom-right corner of the trim panel is flush with the panel next to it (in front of the passenger), then it's set correctly.

I think what you're looking for is "Unknown Sources", meaning installing apps that aren't downloaded from Google Play or another recognized app provider. That option should still be in the settings.

Yes. But it calls here 3rd party applications.

Settings > Security > 3rd party applications

I wanted to post this here real quick. I don't have a BRZ, or FRS. I actually have a 2015 Subaru Sti. I just got the Dashlinq4 installed this morning which is actually pretty easy but I'm just very dumb in wiring lol. I got a TON of help from Dave (SVXDC) and Will from Innotrends. There is not enough thank you's in the world for their help.

Anyways, I haven't messed with the radio too much yet(thanks work) but I contacted Will before buying to see if I could get red backlighting instead of white. He told me definitely can for an extra $10.

I just took this pic with my iPhone tonight so sorry for the crappy pic. The color looks washed out but it really isn't. Looks great! Matches the red perfectly to the stock radio. For $10 extra, the red is very worth it.

I'll post impressions later this week of everything.

My unit continues to ask me about enabling Google Location services, regardless of how I answer every time. It's really annoying that it can't seem to "remember" my selection.

excellent, thank you.

still getting familiar with the unit - I did come across some more annoying little issues. first of all, the gps reception isn't very good - I've placed the gps receiver somewhere above the steering column. it only figures out where I am after a few minutes of driving.

second thing I'm not able to figure out - my iphone 6 does not connect automatically over bluetooth. I need to pair them every time I get in the car, which is a bit frustrating. anybody else having issues with connecting an iphone to the ca-fi? (after a few google searches, it appears that this is a rather common issue and is caused by ios 8 and later; I will post again if I find a fix)

p.s. NOW they tell me I could have ordered it with red backlight...
p.s.2 there was a link here to a wiki containing various softwares/root options/recommendations, but I can't find it - does anyone have it bookmarked? thanks

Yeah I only wish they listed options they could provide. Didn't find out about external mic connection till it was too late.

This might be the site you're thinking of: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...4Y/mobilebasic

I have an iPhone 5 but haven't tried pairing it yet. I'll let you know when I do. It's more so with ios8 though than the radio.

yeap, that's the link i was looking for - thanks.

as related to bluetooth connection, that was an idiotic question on my side - there is a 'connect automatically' checkbox in the bluetooth settings, which is for some reason disabled by default. works fine now.

i've even found a way to automatically turn on internet tethering on my iphone when it connects to bluetooth, i'll give it a try later today - and if it works, i can say i'm happy with the unit

So...I'm having a dumb issue that I can't figure out. How do I set my own wallpaper with the wallpaper option in settings? I put some pictures on the unit, but I don't know what folder they need to go in.
