personally, if you got the money and you got the time why not just get into the 86 platform.

You want nicer interior? You can do that
You want better sound system? You can do that
You want sound insulation? You can do that

With the amount of money you're willing to spend you can grab a true sports car that you want and then just make it your own. I feel like that's the best part because it won't be like everyone else

If you want power then you can go FI. The 86 platform is what you want. To connect with the driving experience. You can just make it perfect in your own way after ;3

I wish i had options like you though. It'd certainly be nice.

I had a G35 coupe, got it new and drove it for three years. It had a refined interior, good sound system, and more power than an 86, but similar to your Genesis experience; the driving experience felt a bit numb.

I have to say initially I was a bit put off by the "bare bones" feeling of the FR-S cockpit. I had after-market leather installed, and that helped a bit. I've since forgotten any other "luxuries" I may have thought I would miss.

I simply enjoy driving this car, like no other car I've owned to this point in my life. Sounds like you've had a similar experience with a rental.

Once in awhile, you may miss that jolt of speed you could coax out of your Genesis, that you won't necessarily get out of an 86. But the other 99% of the time, when you're not out trying to get traffic tickets, or being a d.b.; the 86 delivers.

As an aside its funny how folks view of things differ. I hate leather seats, and wouldn't want them in any car I own. I do have them in a couple (our '05 Mustang and our Suburban). They are in our Mustang BMHSS (Because MomHawk Says So) and in our Suburban because we bought it used and that's what was available, but given a choice I would much rather have a quality cloth seat.

Could you get your friends into the back of a used 997? They've come down in price a good deal over the last few years, and should combine the involved driving experience you want with more power, a great sound, and a nicer interior than the 86.

I discounted the 997 when I was shopping a few years ago because they were $40k, which was out of my price range, but they're not $40k anymore...

Seriously dude, if you can actually swing a $60k car this sounds like exactly what you want:

@slade7588

For what you want, as others have said, you pretty much described a Cayman S.

If you want to go '86, you pretty much described my build. Ultralightweight GT. Get a Monogram FR-S or Limited BRZ. Then add:

- Sound deadening $200-$300 for the whole car
- RS-R Sports-i coils or similar for improved DD comfort and improved at the limit handling at the track $1700
- Supercharger Kit ($2.5k installed for Phantom ESC+OFT tune or $4.5k installed for Vortech kit+tune).

At this point you're nearly there. You could add wheels/tires & other performance/appearance/reliability bits (catch can, oil cooler, window tint, body kit, etc), but for the street you'd be good with the just the 3 above.

I've been debating on the V6 Genesis for a while now so this was a good read. Coming from a current FR-S owner. You could buy a used BRZ and you probably won't lose much in depreciation if you sell in a year or two.

Lotus Evora?
BMW Z4 coupe?
Mercedes SLK350?
Jaguar F-type coupe?

As already mentioned, powerful GT's aren't usually agile, and sports cars aren't known for being comfortable.

You'll probably need to spend more money to get BOTH...

You know...for 60 grand, you can practically buy a porsche race car.

You actually can.

Thank you guys for being so helpful. Especially for someone coming from another forum.

Let me throw out a couple more key points.

Cars I drove before I bought my genesis. All were good but this was them. Keep in mind I worked at a Hyundai dealership but we're were also dodge Chrysler jeep ford.

2013 mustang 5.0

2013 subaru wrx

2013 Mazda Miata

2013 Dodge Challenger srt 8

Corvette c6 (not zo6)

I have driven an Evo

2011 Camaro ss

Bmw 135i

Bmw 335i

And just recently the s5 and the 228 and 235.

So I shopped a broad spectrum.

You all have been a phenomenal help but my biggest issue with your recommendations is that I don't find porche an attractive car in the least. Any model. Any car. I have a huge porche bias. With that being said I recognize they are hands down bar none some of the best drivers cars you can get at this point and have been. But I wanna enjoy looking at my car. Porches don't turn my head. And over here in California there a dime a dozen.

The Alfa 4c sounds like the closest car to what I'm looking for. And I like the way that looks. Jaguar f type is nice but I haven't driven that either. Though it starts at 66k. Which is too high.

The Audi was a great sports coupe to drive but it still felt uninvolving like my genesis. If I didn't care about the "experience" it would be s5 and never look back.

I am no great fwd fan but also know there are some truly exceptional offerings out there. Ford Fiesta and focus st, vw gti, Honda civic si.

I am ok with all wheel drive but am not particularly in love with the wrx in the way it looks. It is an amazing performance monster though.

I am ready to let the back seats go. I've decided at 26 if my friends my age dont have cars of there own to get places I may have the wrong friends lol.

The new Miata is coming soon but roasters like the s2000, z4 and Miata may not be what I'm looking for.

Corvette c7 stingray has gotten rave reviews.

As far as what I can afford. I am looking to either buy a car outright for 30k or lease something up to 60k. That's how I arrived at the s5.

My gut tells me the corvette or alpha would be perfect however the Corvette does not even have s lease ready yet let alone a good one.

So it's BRZ or bust guys. I guess what I'm waiting for in the refresh may be in vein. All I can say is the genesis got a significant interior refresh in 2013 but it did go up 2k. I Just want it all. I want scion subaru to do the same. But I know that'll raise the price and weight of the car. Two things they never intended to do.

If I liked porche aesthetically the cayman would be perfect. Great advice guys. And thanks for taking the time to read this.

Or..........

An 86 with penske shocks would ride like a mercedes...

I'll throw some more suggestions in the pot;

2015 wrx

Audi TTRS

Audi RS3

BMW M coupe

C7 stingray

SLK55 amg

Used BMW 1M

Used E92 M3

Sub 2009 C6 Z06

Camaro Z/28

Wait for pricing on the GT350R?

I had a similar experience. I was going back and forth between a genesis and FR-S for awhile. I went to a Hyundai dealer to test drive a 2013 genesis turbo and they had a used FRS as well. After driving the genesis I was still on the fence. I then drove their used FR-S, and after that there was no comparison. My girlfriend even commented and said I looked so much more comfortable driving the FR-S. There is just something about the driving experience and "oneness" with the car that the FR-S makes possible. I didn't feel this with the Genesis.

Dude we're talking about cars...

Anyway, point taken you don't like Porsche's, not sure where else you're going to truly get amenities, power, and driving feel but best of luck!

There is no perfect car, every car has its own strength and weakness. Good thing is that you lease cars so you get to experience different cars first hands. I think some board members here jump board to 2015 mustang GT. coming from G35, i am happy with BRZ limited trim except road noises.
