#1 use at least 93 octane and if you can get higher do so (car loves octane)
#2 get a good drop in (apexi or the like) and Mishimoto Silicone intake tube) for decent low noise results, for better hp get a GrimmSpeed or other intake (Testing Skunk 2 soon) they will be a bit louder but give good gains and even better with a tune
#3 Get a catted UEL Header which will make legit power and not wake the dead
#4 Get an exhaust to compliment the intake and header, as an exhaust alone do won't much at all as said previously many times. Make sure it has a resonator or the rasp will drive you nuts on a daily driver.
#5 Get a good tune, OFT is the low cost leader and Ecutek is the premium

All these will get some pretty good gains at the wheel and the car will be night and day to drive (better).

Happy Tuning!!

"cost effective mods"

"an Injen intake"

Any intake system is not going to be a cost effective mod. If you want cost effective, just do a drop in filter. You will see essentially the same gains for 1/5 of the price. With an intake system you're paying hundreds more for the noise.

Awesome, thanks everyone for the suggestions.

"If you want cost effective, just do a drop in filter."

Which filter / what kind is recommended?

And does using OFT screw up my warranty at all? I know there has been a bunch of threads regarding this, and the general consensus is "reflash to stock", but those are all a few years old at this point and I'm wondering if OFT is still considered a reasonable upgrade that won't break my warranty (if I reflash to stock).

Last question, how do I thank people in this forum? I can't find the goddamn "thank this person" button.

So.. thanks!!

drop in... any is fine. K&N is standard go-to. I have the Supertek tube and filter, works just as well.

ECU tune is fine. They can always deny your claim, but they have to prove your mod caused it to deny. You'll hear TONS of opinions on this though. If you're worried about warranty, don't do it. If you're ready to possibly fight for legitimate warranty coverage, then go for it.

you need 10 posts or something before thanks button active

if you have oft just flash back to stock tune before service.
tune is very easy to return to stock.

they will notice headers though, if you have engine related issue best to return stock header\tune to avoid any issue.

if your concerned just run the oft stage1 tune for stock car, then its just 10 minutes work to reflash for service.
then later when you get header you can flash stage2 tune.

yet to hear of any dealer detecting a car flashed back to stock with opensource tuning device as its 100% stock and as yet no one has found a reflash counter.

ecutek counts but its a result of ecutek software and additional info ecutek stores in your rom as i understand it and not a result of the standard ecu firmware or something the dealer can read with techstream or similar software

I can tell you from personal experience that some states do not do sniffer tests and use the ODBII port for emissions inspections but they still do visual inspections to check for tampering with the emissions equipment. Even though you may pass the ODBII part, you'll fail because of the lack of a cat in the header. Just be ready to pull your header off and put the stock manifold back on when this happens.
