Looks like I'm out [FT86 plates now for sale too]
Hi all,
Good chance this will be one of the last times I make a thread in here; I've decided not to go ahead with the 86, at least for the foreseeable future. No one particular reason, just the more I think about it, the less it seems like a decent idea. Even though I'm only 25 I'm a bit of a family man now (2 big dogs plus one of those baby things) so the practicality was always against it, especially since I do have to drop my daughter to daycare 4 days a week. No doubt the missus will want another kiddiewink sooner or later too... getting a newborn out of a 2+2 for months just doesn't seem like a fun time. I'm also a bit pissed off with Toyota Australia. The complete lack of information, even being able to tell us when we'll know something, really shows how out of touch they are especially given the buzz around this vehicle (some of which they've driven). Add to that every salesperson in every dealership I've talked to has pretty much been a wanker with either no product knowledge, or, have just blatantly lied to me about competitors. Even though we don't know RRP yet, I'm in firm belief that it's going to be really pushing my budget. Not a big deal but considering that the practicality and my faith with the manufacturer has been shaken, this particular point has come into my decision. They won't throw in any freebies at all while there's a waiting list, and they'll charge full RRP... which is disappointing for me because things like an extended warranty (to cover life of the finance) are pretty much mandatory. Given that most dealerships seem to have an allocation between 2-5 a month, I can't see them having dealer stock until 2013 at least. I do still have an unfinished AE86 project sitting in my shed too. I've dropped about 25k into it and a lot of hours, but haven't had any enjoyment from it yet. I figure that if I do really want to go fast I should get this on the road... I don't need 2 sports cars hanging around the house. Maybe I'm just in a pessimistic state of mind... I don't know. But I've had enough. Bit disappointing to come to this conclusion after 3+ years but hey, it happens. As per the subject I'll now be selling my Queensland personalised plates "FT86", too. If anyone's interested let me know by reply or PM. Haven't decided on a price yet, will figure that out tonight. Best luck for all who are going to stick with it. I really hope you all have a great time with the car, honestly. Hopefully one day, when my situation improves, I'll join you. - Andy |

Damn. Sorry to hear it Andy. I have a few of my mates that have been waiting for this car (86 and BRZ) pull out and buy something else due to lack of tangible information from the dealers
Best of luck and I hope you finish that ae86 soon ![]() Tony

I'm also getting pissy waiting for it. Thinking of getting a second hand WRX for about $25k-30k. I really want to wait and drive it first though.

I'm with you pugs, I can't even get any insider info anymore and that's real tight, my main reason is total lack of available info, 99% of info is on this site with next too nothing coming officially from Toyota.
I know is not long to go now but doing a pre order just to get info thats almost non existing is rather rude. No point signing up for updates because they just flog Camry info. |

In regards to more info, apart from price, what is left to find out?
I am pretty sure most of us know basically everything there is to know anyway. |

Nafe do you even know what our model looks like, trim levels/colours(interior), as i say 99% of info we assume from other countries models which in general is a fair assumption but we got reamed before?
Unless i missed it but where is our production model? What type Audio Any trims added, scuff plates etc Options/upgrades? All we know at best is that our GT could be like the G in Japan and the GTS like the GT in Japan. Apparently we get the leather knob and steering wheel, what does that look like? What does the Oz production model look like and what are our options, what do they look like, these are the things i need to know before i part with 1 red penny. I guess well know soon enough. |

I can get a faster and more practical WRX for less. I just love the ideas behind this car though. |

Devie – yes, price is pretty important.. please show me where I said a) that it isn’t or b) that we don’t need to know/already know?? I said “other than price”.. Pretty clear indication that I realise we are all still waiting....
With regards to trim levels and stuff, I see no need to make a big deal of it like you have JFC. We know what the steering wheel and gearknob will look like, we know what the rims look like, we know what the aero looks like, we know to a fair degree what is included in the high spec model and what is/isn’t in the low spec model. Sure we haven’t upgrades/options confirmed yet, but we can use our brains a little work out the usual straight forward stuff. Floor mats, headlight protectors, scuff plates, etc will be available. The only thing I am not too happy about is not knowing pricing, and even that isn’t the end of the world. The other stuff doesn’t worry me because, for the most part, cosmetic “upgrades” don’t bother me. Not shit like scuff plates, etc. Each to their own. I don’t *need* this car, i want it. So because it isn’t a necessity, I am not too fussed about little things. |

Yeah but nafe, alot of people need a car at the moment and were/are holding out for this one. I know for a fact a few people that committed to something else due to not knowing the price of this, as they or their partner said enough wait, time to move on to something that is known and can be had now
