I've noticed over the past week or so that there's a loud rasp coming from the muffler. Started happening intermittently and only in certain mid to high engine loads. But since I fitted my catless UEL header this morning the rasp just went ballistic! Even blipping the throttle in neutral now will give out an enormous rasp, very distinctly coming from the rear end.

Note: there are no leaks whatsoever, and was verified by the exhaust shop. I'm going to try borrowing a mate's used factory muffler to see if that makes any difference. By the way my exhaust setup is catless header, 2.5" overpipe, 2.5" catted front pipe, stock catback.
The catless header and non resonated front pipe are probably the culprits.
The rasp was bad on my car with catless header and catless front pipe.
Catted and resonated or dual resonated front pipe should cut the rasp out.

Having taken apart a stock muffler, there is no way for it to fail, short of soaking it in seawater for a few years or spending an hour with some metal working tools.

Funny thing is that I've heard another guy's car (still NA) with a full aftermarket exhaust system (catted header, overpipe, catless front pipe, and resonated catback) and there was no rasp at all. I wouldn't say his was quiet, but his definitely had a deeper tone.

I'm almost certain it's got something to do with the factory rear muffler.....perhaps it's not able to cope with the increased airflow especially being supercharged now, and the internal baffles are creating some weird resonance/rasp?? Or at least that's my theory....

You were right, there was nothing wrong with my factory rear muffler. Swapped with another guys muffler and still had the loud rasp. So I swapped the Motiv catted front pipe to the factory one and immediately was heaps better.

I'm not sure how much the supercharger plays in terms of exhaust sound, but from my experience Sprintex + catless UEL + 2.5" OP + 2.5" catted front pipe = horrible rasp.

So now my setup now is simply catless header & overpipe with stock front pipe and stock catback....which surprisingly is only a tad louder than stock. Even the boxer rumble is pretty soft and only noticeable at certain loads/revs.

New Innovate SC with big noise

Hi every body

I bought a new Innovate SC kit last month and today installed in my BRZ. It is working so well. But the noise is not acceptable, sounds like the damaged bearing, The shaft may be collision during transportation.
I live in China, It's difficult to returns to factory.
Can I open the SC gear case and replace the damaged bearing by myself?

Hi guys just need your opinion on whether a retune is required for catback?

I've just replaced the header and will get the tune refined to suit that and my local fuel. But I might be replacing the catback in a month or so, and was wondering if it's neccessary to go through this process again?

Would replacing to a free flowing catback generally makes a car run leaner or richer?

Can you describe the sound? You do realise that superchargers make an audible whine yes? There were some of us who had belt or pulley issues, which made annoying squeaky noises. In my case I replaced the belt and it fixed the squeak for good. Some replaced the pulley and that worked for them.

Before you go opening anything, how certain are you that the issue lies within the blower itself? And would you know how to fix it correctly after getting it open? Where did you purchase the kit from? Could you not contact the seller for local support? I'd suggest doing that first or at least get in touch with Mark at sprintex HQ in Australia and discuss.

Post a video with the noise so people can hear what you are referring to as it's way to hard to access something like this without hearing it .

As Fizz said I wouldn't be pulling anything apart if it's brand new.

Mine is not real quite either .

Have you contacted the seller, distributor, or even sprintex about this? If its new it will be covered under warranty.

The intercooler kit consists of the laminova core, heat exchanger and reservoir. The laminova core is sandwiched (hidden) between the blower and manifold. The heat exchanger is in front of the radiator in the bumper (at least on mine it is). The reservoir for the Innovate version is above the blower, driver side towards the back of the blower. Plumbing (hoses) goes throughout the front of blower, back of blower, reservoir and heat exchanger.
