It's still a rumor at this point, but it's all over the automotive news.

That seems far fetched, a mustang is not a mustang without a V8, and they can't possibly have an F150 with no V8.

'murrica! and all that.

That's all it is, a rumor. Unless you hear it from Raj Nair and/or Ford directly, I wouldn't hold my breath. No way would Ford invest the amount of resources and time into the new 5.2 FPC motor or the Coyote/Roadrunner program in general only to discontinue it next year. It'll be around in some flavor for quite some time.

They would still have the 5.4...

Just because the 5.0 gets disco'd doesn't mean they wouldn't have a v8.

The push right now is low displacement higher power through efficiency to meet emissions and efficiency requirements.

Some of them have gotten away with it through cylinder deactivation in the v8's but that will only get them so far..

There's a reason they're using a 3.5L twin turbo'd v6 in the new Ford GT and it ain't because they can't get more power out of a bigger engine...

I was looking forward to the control pack for the ecoboost 3.5 because I was wanting to swap it into the FRS. If the mustang gets it, I can do the swap legally in cali using the entire drive train like I was considering doing with the camaro ss and the L99. I think I would much rather have an engine that is already forced induction and longitudinal mount RWD to start with. It will make the swap (and future upgrades) VASTLY easier and cheaper than trying to upgrade all the components to support it using the twins' rear end, trans, brakes, etc...

The 5.4 is gone. The 5.0 is their new V-8 of choice. Just because the new GT got the 3.5, that doesn't mean the V-8 is going away anytime soon. There's other reasons why the 3.5 got dropped into the new "exotic" car. You did see the new GT350 right? That's rocking a 5.2 FPC motor, which took a ton of R&D to get into production. The V-8 isn't going away anytime soon.

I thought he was referring to just the 5.0 and just the mustang. I went and read the article and saw that it was referring to all ford v8's...

I don't believe that for a minute. Like you pointed out the FP v8 5.2 that they just designed isn't going away.

I could see the GT V8 going away though.

I thought they did that for packaging reasons and because this is basically the same engine they run in the Daytona prototype cars

This thread is making me want a 4-cylinder Mustang.
Just went to Ford's site. Ecoboost + Performance Pack + Recaros <$30k

Meanwhile base-model Ecoboost Mustangs are ~$37,000 here in Japan.

Update 2/2/15

Hey everyone! Big update for today as we finally finished our downpipe, catback, and intake.

We flashed the Cobb 93 oct tune on here with all three parts and here are the results. Keep in mind, this is just their off the shelf map. We are going to be doing a custom map on it this week.
