I have a DGM WRX (same color used on BRZ) with 3M clear bra for the past 18 months with no issues. Even if the clear bra did yellow it would be very hard to notice with the darker paint. Additionally, my installer did a great job hiding any seams within the lines of the car, so you cannot see the film unless you're up close to the paint. No need to install on your entire hood or anything like that to keep from seeing the seams. Just make sure you find a good installer.

The key to avoiding yellowing is maintenance. I make sure to spray wax the clear bra after any wash and I remove bug guts, bird poo, or any blemishes from the film as soon as I can. The 3M film also has a clear coat on it, so you can wax it with the rest of the car. This also helps prevent yellowing.

Cost for my WRX was ~$800 for full bumper, 1/4 hood, side view mirrors, side skirts, and back of the wheel fenders. The BRZ looks much simpler to install on, so the cost could be $100 or so cheaper.

This might be the the other film that is used other than the 3M protection film.

MetroRestyling Paint Protection Film is transparent and nearly invisible, and it does not alter vehicle appearance.

Haha this was great. I honestly came into this thread having no idea what the hell everyone was talking about... and assuming this kind of bra. Color me embarrassed!

Many of our Porsche/Audi customers choose to go with 3M VentureShield paint protection film. I think we charge about $600 for it (Who the hell was quoted $1000??) and if you clean it properly it doesn't yellow. I sold a 2006 BMW X3 last month that had it done when new and the clear bra still looked perfect. Then again I saw a 996 Porsche GT3 in white that the clear bra looked yellow (it was probably nearly 10 years old, though). It's possible to remove them and replace, and I'm pretty sure it's better than getting the nose of the car repainted and blended years down the road.

We've had a couple black cars traded in that didn't have paint protection, and it showed. A $72,000 Audi RS 4 and a $100k+ 911 that needed the front ends re-painted, and that's paint on German cars, not Subaru or Toyota paint which I can almost guarantee is much lower quality.

I keep thinking of these when people mention clear bras:

I had one in my white GT-R the nissan dealer installed it and since it was white you could see a little bit where the bra ended because the edge got a bit dirty and since the car was white you would see the line edge.

But then again i tracked my GT-R and it did save it from rock chips and stuff around the track, i noticed it did a good job because they did not wrap the front center gray piece and that got chipped compared to the whole car.

Even though the FR-S is the same color as my GT-R pearl white im still going to clear bra it, if you plan on tracking the car trust me its a must have unless you want to see your paint turn into caca.

This is one of the biggest reasons I want to do it. We auto-x at a beat up old airstrip in Rhode Island. I'd have to cover the whole front end in painter's tape if I didn't want to get showered in rock chips. Much easier to do the paint protection!
