It wouldn't make sense to have it with a Toyota badge on the hood. Maybe back in the day when the Supra and Celica were around. But in this day and age Toyota have been making "appliances" lately rather of "automobiles". Nothing exciting to look at. Simply boring A to B cars. So in a nutshell I think a Scion badge would be a better choice. If they do decide to go with a boxier design it will have that Scion look; Which doesn't have my approval of course!!!

More speculation for you guys...
http://wot.motortrend.com/6694183/fu...dea/index.html Mid 20s for this car is not worth it. There are so many cars that you can get for that kind of money that give you more in every way. I guess the reported RWD hatchback would be worth waiting for if it comes out. It would most likely fall under the 20k range. |

If the FT86 was sold as a Scion in the states, Wouldnt they still sell it as a Toyota FT86 in other countrys that did not have the Scion brand?

Pray tell, besides the MX-5 (a convertible), what cars out there fit the profile of a light weight, economical (face it, $25k is fucking cheap in the realm of sports cars), rwd coupe? Genesis? Pig Mustang and crew? Muscle cars... and pigs. And can easily be optioned to well over $30k Anything else? That's what I thought. Don't bring up anything used either. I swear fucking people out there seem like preschooler. Fucking cynics know the price of everything and the value of nothing. |

There are some rumors out there that Kia is looking to make a miata competitor.
Some reading: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=395625 Matador: I have no retort because you're right there are no other lightweight RWD COUPEs besides the miata in that price range. But how can Toyota expect the car to be a success at that price range going against the cars you mentioned to the mass market. Toyota really needs to get into the "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday" mentality and make up their mind with what they are going to do with this car. They should have them out their racing in any series before production to give the car some sort of exposure in motorsports. At least the Genesis is out there drifting and being developed. All of the muscle cars run in the GrandAm Series. Plus the mustang drifts. The RX-8 is still out there tearing it up in GrandAm. There are 2 series for miatas. First one being Spec Miata and the second being the MX-5 Cup. The miatas are also in GrandAm. I wouldn't be surprised if we get some half assed product, with all of us wondering what IF. Because clearly, not everyone wants a muscle car. If the Genesis were 500lbs lighter, I would definitely buy one, but it's a pig. If I wanted a Fat GT cruiser, I'd buy a used or CPO SC430. Secondly, how do you expect them to race the car on that kind of level if it's not out yet? p.s. Drifting is not a motorsport. yeah OldSkool, you heard me. Toyota has enough motorsports experience and sports car expertise to get it done, plus they have subaru engineers at their disposal. Was the genesis anywhere racing before it came out? The current gen miata? The mustang at all? I think not. Very few cars have raced before their production debut, and they are all very very very expensive. Please see Lexus LFA, Porsche Carrera GT and Daur 962 LeMans. Thank you. |

Ford and Mazda don't need to take it to that extreme because they developed their respective cars in the previous gens till it was time to make something new.
This car and platform is untested. Has anyone seen this car outside of an autoshow? Testing on The Ring? No one has seen this car in action. I agree with you that drifing is not racing. It is a subjective sport much like figure skating is a subjective sport. You might wanna look into the Honda HSV and Audi Quattro |

Do you really have any insight into the car design process? When the MX5 was first built, it was a new untested platform. And it was good. The platform that will underpin the FT-86, while being "unique" to the FT-86, is derived from the Legacy/next generation imprezza. Hardly a new and untested platform. What is it that you really expect from Toyota, or any automaker for that matter? This car will spend thousands upon thousands of miles being beatdown at the nurburgring, fuji race track, and quite probably a few others. The LFA took 10 years mainly because of it's advanced composite shell and unique one-off components. Wanna see the kind of testing that they did on it? Have a look at the first minute and a half; This is what development cars go through. You act like if Toyota might have forgotten how to build a sports car ![]() and p.s. The FT-86 development mule testing on the ring The HSV is not coming to production. If it does, it will be over $100k. Also, the actual Super GT cars these days have precious little to do with their production counterpart. Racing the hsv racear has no bearing on the street car (if they ever decide to produce it). Audi quattro? Seriously? You mean this ![]() that was based on this; ![]()

Yes I mean that! The car that dominated Rallies in it's day.
Then what is Toyotas contribution to the 86 if subaru is doing everything? Yes I do think toyota has forgotten how to build a sports car. Considering the last gen MR2 was a flop in sales. The celica is not a sports car. |

Wish the Japanese weren't so tight lipped. They need to get some excitement building outside of the people follow it.

Oh good God you are thick. a) What does the quattro have to do with anything? b) Who ever said Subaru is doing everything? Man alive.... ![]() c) The last gen MR2 was a flop in sales (in the US) because it was wildly impractical (as most sports cars are) and didn't offer enough hp for the price. As a sports car, it was great, it's like driving a big shifter kart, you wear it more than drive it. If sales dictate how good a sports car is, then I guess the Supra, 300ZX, NSX & RX-7... in fact, pretty much all sports cars of the 90's were shit too huh? The Celica is a sports car. Granted, the last generation was front drive only, but at the time, and in fact still, it is one of the sharpest and most entertaining front drivers money could buy. The 2ZZ is a gem of an engine, and while fun in the 7th gen, it was IMO mismatched to the chassis. Doesn't changed the fact that it was good for what it was. Why do I even bother? I'm out.... |

Toyota want the car to be low COG, so they take boxer technologies from Subaru. Toyota is the one who modified the engine, suspension, and else. DO you think Subaru is the one who modified Leggy's chasis? ( actually, I don't, but I guess it's Toyota). |
