Haha to be honest with you even with my employee price its not a lot of deffernce between msrp on a scion, If I was buying a vehicle like a sequoia i may have been able to rep the benefits.
I had 5 different frs's as company cars accumulating about 90k in total driving in the car before I got the modding itch and the company cars just weren't cutting it anymore. So I could say I wasted a good year and a half of my salesperson time dragging out the inevitable sale @Tcoat |

I think this is a great and fair thread. Usually, people are more willing to be vocal about their experience if it was bad.
As an advice, whenever purchasing a vehicle through Scion, there are some factors to consider; 1: Pure Pricing is real. At least most of the time. The only ways Pure Pricing is overcome are either through discount from dealer markup (which not all dealerships have, such as the dealership I work for) or what dealers call an old age unit. An old age unit means the unit/vehicle has been on the lot for far too long and the dealer is now willing to lower their price to just move it off their lot. Now, "too long" to the purchaser can be nothing to the dealer. 90 days seems a long time to us, I'm sure, but not to them, especially for a new vehicle. Now, if the vehicle is 90 days away from being a year old, then there's a good chance the price of the vehicle can be negotiated, if the dealer did not already pro-actively drop the price. So what's your take away from this? Ask how long the vehicle has been on the lot to better gauge if the dealer is willing to negotiate on the price. 2: Assuming the vehicle is considered an old age unit, unless there's dealer markup, Scions have even less wiggle room than Toyotas. As Tcoat says, expecting $5,000 off MSRP is unreasonable and impossible to reach. If you want to have a better gauge on what's a reasonable discount, find out what the dealer markup is and what the MSRP is. 3: In addition to 2, optional equipment (foglights, spoiler, TRD parts, etc) plays a big factor on the amount of discount you can get. If there's less or no optional equipment on the car, expect less wiggle room. 4: It is true that there's a lot of Sales Consultants that don't make it past a year. It could be that the job just wasn't what they expected it to be or it just wasn't a good fit for them. It doesn't necessarily the dealership sucks. It just shows how hard it is of a job. What you should look for is to see how honest the salesman is. If they're new, they'll tell you. 5: Traditional salesmen don't really exist anymore. Technology played a big factor on that. We, as consumers, are more informed more and more every day so by the time we go into a store, we practically already know what we want to get and know about the product. Sales Consultants know this, so, if anything, they'll just do test drives and talk numbers with you at the very least. Now, it doesn't mean they won't answer your questions about the vehicle. Just don't expect them to haggle with you aggressively or chase after you. 6: Every dealership have their own policies, but they also have to comply with Toyota/Subaru's policies as well. 7: A dealership exists to sell vehicles. If they have a chance to sell you a vehicle, they'd do whatever they can to make it happen. If it's a matter of trying to get to the monthly payments you're comfortable with, or whatever unique situation you're going through, they'll do what they can to make the sale happen. Problem solving is a big thing dealerships have to do. Now, this is from my experience as a Sales Consultant for Toyota/Scion. I don't know if Subaru has Pure Pricing for their BRZ, so yes, it's possible they'll more than likely be willing to give you discounts with their brand new, just was dropped off on the lot vehicles. On the flip-side, there still are some sales people that are either incompetent or not good with customer service. Those people typically don't last long or are "beat" into shape. Just my 2 cents on what to expect. |

aha I walked into the dealership in London Ontario about 15 minutes before close (8pm) for a test drive, then spent a half hour ripping around and enjoying myself in the car lol
got back and they could see by my face I wanted it, i told them I had to have it, and they stayed till 10pm that night finishing up the bill of sale and credit check. I picked it up 2 days later lol |

How about this...
Bought my BRZ sport tech in june 2014, got 2500$ off, the whole process was 'normal'. I've been looking at these cars for a few yrs now. It made me think of an MGB, Spitfire or Opel GT. As a teeager those were the sportcars I liked. Lightweight, underpowered & fun. ( I don't think our cars are under powered btw....) So, 6 months later I want to put Opticoat on, I show up, he looks at my car & ask ' When did u paint your car?' HOLY SHIT!!!!!! I bought this car new & now I find out it was repainted? So I call the gov't consume protection banch, called the APA & contacted a lawyer, Seems this is an illegal practice... no shit. I called the dealer, they say there is no issue, yes they repainted the car & I have 5 yr warranty... Not the point, I go up the ladder, service manager, sales manager & finally GM. Same story, no issue, they do this all the time, yickes! I tell GM I will be writting a letter to gov't consumer protection branch , to Subaru & to the head office of the dealership. After several calls to them they offer me something, so I go. 1 month after my first call I get a new 2015 sport tech with 9km & drop off mine wih 10000km. My very first Subaru, always wanted one since the WRX bugeye came out. Due to a mistake , I did have to pay abit of $$$ for the 2015. So, what I think of the dealership?.... Not much! Easy? No! |

My experience was super easy. Emailed the surrounding Scion and Subaru dealers. Scion dealers all stuck to Pure Prive so they were out. The closest Subaru dealer have me the best trade-in on my Charger (by a WIDE margin) and for the first time I didn't have to explain what the Subaru VIP Program was. They had zero issues giving me that price so I just crunched numbers between a lease and buying and that was that. Super easy process.

Mine was quite easy, my previous car was totaled when someone hit me, still drivable, so I drove it for week while I looked at other cars. I still needed a new car quick though.
I was after the standard cheaper model, I don't need any of the extra stuff you get on the more expensive ones. Second hand ones were just as expensive as new, so I decided to buy new. On Wednesday evening I went to dealer 1 for a test drive, the salesman (he knew quite a bit about the car, all of it accurate), me and my brother took one out, we got back, I said I was interested but I was going to see another car at dealer 2 the next day (always a good idea to instill competition). On Thursday evening, I went to dealer 2, the salesman didn't know much about it, but didn't try to lie his way out. My dad and I went for an unaccompanied test drive. We got back, the salesman wasn't around so the manager came over, he asked if I liked it, I said I did, but that I was going to see another one at another dealer (I wasn't, but I wanted an out just in case he tried to pressure sell me). Then I realise how good a salesman this guy is, he says that it will be the same car at any other dealer and what can he do to sell me a car. This was the second last day of the month and I have heard that dealers try to get numbers up at the end of the month, so I say "how about taking $800 off the price", then he says "how about I take off another thousand". I say "done". We go inside, he asks what colour, I say white, he looks in the database, the waiting period for a white is two months, my totaled car is being picked up the next day so that's no good. I say I need it quick, he says, put a deposit down now and sign the contract and he'll add a condition in the contract that if he can't find me one in 48 hours, the contract is void (he does and we both initial it). I deposit and sign. I then go to the finance area to sort out payment, I am paying cash so there's very little paperwork. I purposely never volunteered previously that I would be paying cash, the dealers earn money from the finance deals, I wanted them to think that they might get that from me and give me a lower price. The next day, Friday, at 10:30 in the morning he calls me and says he's found a car at another dealer, done a dealer swap and has arranged transport for it to his dealership. I get the details and transfer the balance of the money to their account. This is a really tough weekend I asked if I could pick it up on the Saturday afternoon, but they needed more time, so it had to be Monday evening. Monday comes round and we go to pick it up, I spend about 10-15 minutes doing my PDI. The salesman are surprised, apparently very few people do this. I sign the delivery papers, take the keys and I'm off.A day later the salesman from the other dealership calls me, I feel a little guilty telling him that I bought from someone else, he was a nice guy who new his stuff, I tell him I just couldn't pass up the deal from the other dealer, he asks the price I paid and I tell him, I apologise and we both hang up.

I just bought my FRS yesterday on News Years Eve here in the Toronto area from a sales rep my buddy bought his FRS from. In fact the sales rep wasn't supposed to be working yesterday but he came in for my friend to pick up his car and stayed AFTER closing for me to buy mine.
Best experience I've had with any sales rep. He himself had an AE86 and a FRS, first time I've seen a car enthusiast as a sales rep which was pleasant. We went for a joy ride in his personal FRS. Very knowledgeable and absolutely no BS. It felt like it was his mission to put me in a FRS. Received 5k off MSRP for a 2014 as well as discounts on other things such as winter tires + rust proof etc. Best experience I've ever had, other locations I was ignored probably because I'm fairly young. This guy knew what was up.

I wish mine was a little easier.
I found exactly the car I was looking for on the dealers website. I drove in and was immediately met by a salesman. I told him I wanted "that car" as I pointed to it. Which one? he asks. The Hot Lava FR-S I said. Which transmission? he asks. I guess I wasn't clear that I knew that car had an automatic, so I told him I wanted an automatic. He said he needed to talk to his sales manager. Fifteen minutes later, he comes back out. "What if I told you..." he starts, and then pauses for, I'm not kidding, thirty seconds. I was just about to wave my hand in front of his face to see if was still conscious. "...that this car was promised to another dealership?" I would leave and not come back I said. I need to talk to my sales manager he replied. I don't know if this was a game they play or not, but I wasn't going for it. They wanted me to pick another color or a manual, and I wasn't going to. Finally they agreed to sell me the car and we got into the negotiations. I explained clearly what I would take for my trade-in and interest rate on financing, being clear I wasn't budging on either. Still the salesman went back and forth to his manager with various prices and rates. I had to again be emphatic that I wasn't budging or negotiating. They finally relented on the interest rate but couldn't match my trade-in price. The annoying part was the salesman couldn't make a decision on his own, and it didn't help that he spoke it what could be generously called broken English so I was never really sure I was getting through to him. Finally getting to the financing part, that guy was OK, doing the usual upselling of warranties, etc. I wasn't interested and politely declined. We finished up signing the paperwork, and he said it would be a few minutes before the car was ready since they had to peel the protective film off the door edges. It seems that they applied those hoping whoever bought the car would pay for the entire film package. I didn't, so they took what little was on there off. Pretty cheap of them we thought. I get back to work and get a call from the dealership saying they had used the wrong forms for the loan, and we needed to come back. That's a whole other story, but it turned out OK and it wasn't them trying to rip me off. And then I could go into how a "friend" of the salesman wanted to buy my vehicle, sight-unseen, for the price I wanted. I was getting texts before I was a mile away from the lot. I thought that was odd, and when it came up that it was a manual, suddenly the price he was willing to pay went down. I stopped communication soon afterwards. |
