what causes the car to be so miata/s2000 like sometimes? I swear my car sometimes violently snaps back and it makes me just want to wreck it and build an s13 again lol

We had the pleasure of being the official tire installer for Sonoma Drift's Winter Jam last weekend. Ryan Kado of Team Animal Style stopped by to reload.

i think mixture of stock diff and electronic steering rack. steering rack feels dead to me especially when transferring

Solid rack bushings help with this. Battleversion sells them, pretty cheap. But also the knuckles made mine way less snappy i think, maybe just how i feel since i spin less from angle. No front sway def helps snappyess too.

Hey Slava, I'll definitely grab solid rack bushings then. In my head, no front sway while still keeping the rear sway would make it more snappy no? but obviously you've tried it and it works. Any explanation on this you think?

off topic: i think we need to make a ZN6 team for FB2

I refuse to miss it next year. My deployment kept me from going this time. USAIR looks amazing to drive though

Car snapping back is because car has a lot of mechanical grip. Not tyre grip, mechanical. Run rear toe out, it'llsolve that because it makes the car want to go sideways. With toe out and a 2 way, it'll never snap, it'll feel like the rear is on snow.

I'm a fan of rear toe out on this car with stock power.

you guys with megan racing / hardrace inner tie rods. How much more angle did you gain? or do you have any photos of the additional angle increase?

Has pictures, including before and after etc.

Don't worry. Just keep at it and you'll get there. Remember to practice in wide open spaces to keep you and the car in safer areas. Some of the tight space drifting you're seeing on this forum is from people who've been drifting for years.

@philstar - This is actually kind of a cool question because I have a whole guide to the physics of racing that explains it using a miata. The information is designed for track-based grip driving but can be applied to drift and any other type of driving as well. It's written by a man from the UK but google "Physics of Racing" and you'll find it still active on a miata thread at this URL: http://www.miata.net/sport/Physics/ . The basics for it are as follows:

Loose front, stiff rear allows the front to lean or flex the chasis onto your "grip" tires (front) so you can use weight of vehicle to squeeze out some more traction. The stiff rear will keep the car from flexing in the same way on the rear tires and makes the vehicle step out or slide.

Now what is said about toe in or out (In this case tow out) on the rear is also correct. The vehicle is a hair snappy. I find that driving the FT86 with the pedal dance active on the vehicle makes me more comfortable as a driver as well because the slide feels more regulated or predictable. So if you fight it with mechanical grip (Tow / camber / caster adjustments, steering angle, ect) or you fight with tire grip (tire type, traction ratings, compositions, and sway setup, ect.) this is the preference of you the driver. If you got into my car or "Steve's" car, you might not like how it is set up. So try different things and see what works best for you.

As a side note & edit: This may change tarmac to dirt to gravel now that think about it. My co-driver has always set up the tarmac / asphalt runs and I've always done the dirt and gravel. We use dirt and gravel settings on the snow (But rarely see it in my area)
