Correct. We don't have double overdrive transmissions, so on a 5 speed you'd be in 5th.

To get down to that RPM at highway speeds requires a double overdrive trans.

I'm speaking about these people buzzing around at 30mph in third...

Yes, on flat level ground or even slight hills.

I just try my best to get to the highest gear as fast as possible (without breaking my passengers' necks)

I just tried to roll at 1500 RPM...No thanks, my engine sounds like a diesel if I put it into 5th at 30 mph.

Then you're trying to accelerate or you're on a hill. Mine is silent.

I guess I don't have any areas where I would be rolling at 30 for enough time to put it in 5th. But I just don't feel right having my RPMs anywhere under 2000. After your post I did go up a gear in some situations (like 5th gear at 40) so thanks!

Yeah, we're a bit flatter here I'm sure. Not as flat as Florida of course, but we are on the edge of the great plains...

It's not about flatness but more about traffic, speed limits, and stoplights probably. I'd rather roll in 3rd at 30 for 5 extra seconds instead of upshifting to 4th and then downshifting to 3rd or even 2nd.
