Crickets are a way of life. I only fill up at quiet stations that have Ultra 94 in rusty fuel bowsers. The crickets are steadily getting louder, to the point where they don't sound like crickets anymore. I'm trying to engage Tweet Mode.

Thanks again everyone for your input. I was rather upset when the sound first surfaced, thinking "great. got out of one problem car and into another."

But now, knowing that it is an extremely common issue that most are experiencing, it makes me feel at least a bit better.

I personally am one of those people who can't stand the sound. Yes, it's not extremely intrusive, but it's still annoying to me, and the bottom line is that it simply shouldn't sound like that to start with.

The sound is annoying to me, but I'm MORE bothered by the fact that, over 2 years since the release of this car, and with a vast majority of owners reporting the issue, Subaru/Toyota is basically willing to do nothing except replace your noisy part with the same noisy part. In my case, they're not even willing to do that! Although, as someone above mentioned, it may be an exercise in futility anyways.

you are confusing what you imagine to be crickets with normal hpfp clatter

This issue seems to be on a case by case basis, but for what it's worth I haven't had any chirping yet with the revised part # fuel pump.
Here's the list. Add away.

I embrace all the chirps squeaks and noises that my car makes

I'll get crickets if I fill up at petro....usually don't hear them with costco fuel....and they come out when it's really hot....but it doesn't change how I feel about the car

There are crickets with my old 2.0T BPY during cold starts, which goes away and get replaced by your so-called *normal HPFP clatter* only when then engine has been running for some time. Not confused at all when I've had the car for almost 7 years not sure what you are smoking.

I've had crickets on my BRZ when the weather wasn't hot. It's just more prone to crickets when the weather gets really hot but not a rule of thumb.

Maybe you come from a parallel universe.

That's nice. So, in your universe does the engine bay only heat up when it's hot outside? That would be impressive.

In our area, SE Pennsylvania, I've found that some brands of fuel yield fewer crickets than others. They all indicate up to 10% ethanol on the pumps and rumor has it all the fuel generally comes from the same refinery near Philly. Oddly enough, though, Hess and Lukoil give me less trouble. Shell was the worst in my experience. I tried an ethanol killer once with no success. I'm thinking it might help to try sea foam or Mechanic in a Bottle: both have been great with my small engines (mower, leaf blower, snow blower, trimmer). In fact the Seafoam helped restore some really old fuel (many years old).

Anyone found any of these ethanol blocking additives help?
