I need to tear one of these apart and find out.
I think you have it backwards, alot of people were reporting that it starts loud and becomes quieter over time.

He means over time as in as the car warms up, over a couple minutes/hours, not over months of use.

I think he means it starts out quiet as a new pump and after a few hundred miles it wears to the point of allowing that part, whatever it is, to ring. At least that's been my running theory.

Strat, you said yours had quieted, no? I know it's winter and all, but...

edit: not that it matters. I'm waaaaay over it. Just curious.

Oh you're right, misread it.

Yes mine is nonexistent and has been for about a year and a half (survived a very hot summer with no recurrence), if it's there I can't tell it apart from the regular ticky-tacky of the DI. 33k miles, all E10 91 octane fuel at the most convenient station, 12/12 build date (so rev 1 fuel pump) never replaced.

Yessss!!! <success kid> I'm at 9K. Also held out. It started quieting down late this summer. I quit using E0 on purpose.

Tcoat - there is a poll attached to this thread. Of course people are going to respond and tell their personal story after they vote in the poll...

I would hope that any rational person will look at the 3000 posts of "me too", 800 posts of "get xxx gas" or the 500 posts of "I had a voodoo witch doctor fix mine" and reconsider their post!

Is there a time limit for when they'll replace the fuel pump? I'm nearing my 2 year mark in a couple weeks and still having engine chirps (haven't had fuel pump replaced yet as I was told by Toyota consultant he'd done other replacements and the chirps stayed).

No, just keep driving. These forums will explode if Toyota and Subaru actually fix this.
