FR-S was not my first new car. I would likely buy another one when they come out with a next gen.

Yes I would buy new again, but the car has to be worth it and fortunately this one is. I would never pull the trigger if I had doubts about my enjoyment with the car. The depreciation is a non factor to me, I'm not selling it. My Impreza was a used car and I liked its low purchase cost. A bonus is that it was mechanically solid too. The minus to having that car though...one of the previous owners employed a monkey to do some of the wiring meaning the stereo wires were really badly done, apparently this monkey did more work to other parts of the wiring fortunately nothing serious. Another minus there was a modification that was half-assed done, thankfully it works and doesn't need to be touched unfortunately there are signs of cost cutting. 3rd minus, that car stunk when I got the keys to it.

I could go on, but basically you can get a good used car...but it'll never be perfect and I never did feel like that car was ever mine because every time I had a mod idea...shot down because either it was missing a critical piece or the cheap ass mods from before were in the way. Add that I didn't want to dump a ton of money into it...since I didn't pay that much for it either.

This car on the other hand, I accomplished much of what I wanted, it definitely is my car.

I've had used cars and had zero issues with modding. Would I but a modded used car? Probably not.

The worst thing was, I thought I got a stock one, all the mods were done hidden in the interior.

I thought the policy was "treat first, deal with insurance later" ?

I've never heard of that. I've seen cancer stories of people not treated because of no insurance.

I haven't purchased a used car since 2003. 2005 MINI is still lovingly driven by my wife. 2007 GTI was a dud and sold for reliability reasons. 2010 4Runner was traded for a new Rav to make room for my FR-S. The 4Runner depreciated ~$110/mo. Great experience with it. 2012 Prius v was a company lease then buy. Got it very cheap that way. Did the same lease with my FR-S and plan on buying. I'll certainly buy new again.

If I really like a car, I will buy it new. And I only buy cars I really like, therefore I will only buy new. I don't look at depreciation because if I really like the car (which is why I bought it), I will want to hang onto it until the wheels fall off so to speak.

and I also like being the one to pop my cars cherry (first 10 miles).

I don't know about the cancer cases, but if I walk into the ER and a doctor refuses to treat me because I have no insurance, that's going against the modern day Hippocratic Oath. & I'm pretty sure that's universal

It was fine before with GST/PST as you would only pay the PST (or GST?) on the item. Not too bad. But car sales took a huge slide when HST came in. I think my invoice showed something like $5k+ in taxes and fees alone on my $26k car. I couldn't even imagine buying something more expensive and new. Like a $40k car here will end up being $50+k out the door. Then if you're like some people who sell after the first year or two, it'd only be worth like $25k... Losing $25k in two years! Massive! Might as well get into gambling if you can afford to lose that much. At least you'd have a chance to make some money back if you're lucky ahaha.
Hst is nothing compared to the sales/income tax rates in many other developed countries, on top of sales taxes other countries in Europe have substantially higher auto specific taxes. I think hst is great because if anything it reduces income inequality, I like the idea that whenever i see a rich business man driving down bay street in his ferrari, I know he's paid more than the price of my car in tax

Would I buy new ever again? Depends on the car. If I wanted a toy then I would 100% buy used, but in all honesty my next real car will be something electric like a Tesla so buying new with all its incentives may make more financial sense.

Apples and oranges - you will be treated in a true emergency at ER one way or the other. You very well might not receive optimal cancer treatment, depending on insurance status, your financial resources, etc. And even if you are insured, then there's things like meeting your deductible, which hospitals and docs are in network, etc.
