re

I was looking forward to seeing a video of this. Thanks for the video.

I am disappointed. in 2012, if a totally new car is coming with nav, it shouldnt be THIS BAD !

My friends 04 Lexus RX has a MUCH MUCH better nav system, and touchscreen that works excellent.

I hope that this system can be update somehow, or possibly modded.

hmm, I wonder if the prediction in the navigation address entry can be turned off... that would surely speed things up

At 5:59 the music in the background is from the first Zelda game on the NES. Lmaoo

Overall the system works pretty well, is generally responsive, has good iPod integration, and features some more advanced settings like time correction and 7-band EQ. The speakers sound good too, but I suspect the Impreza has more deadening than the BRZ will. Navigation worked well enough.

Some things I did not like was
-the low resolution of the display,
-Couldn't return to the current playlist to select a different song.
-To select a song at the end of a playlist, you had scroll down through the list using the down arrow on the vertical slider. It's a fairly small button to keep pressing and you couldn't press up to jump to the end. It goes down 5 songs at a time.
-Doesn't seem like you can touch drag to move through a playlist.

I apologize in advance for the shakiness of the video. Despite my username I did not have a tripod in my pocket, hah

Lmao I thought I was the only person who noticed. It's so peaceful and brings back good memories. I have it playing in the background right now.

Does anyone know if its easy enough for a vendor to feed a video input from an obd2 scan gauge onto the screen? Something like the Nissan GTR but not as fancy.

I was surprised the nav was so laggy but playing Zelda was awesome.

The 1st thing I thought when I saw the 2 DIN radio was about and Android head unit.
I've seen a few around with a 800 / 1000 mhz cpu, Froyo or Gingerbread...
Maybe a slightly more powerful unit would be better for the newest navigators but you can use the navigation app by Google maps, have streetview in your car, whatsapp, music streaming, video and audio playback with a userfriendly interface...

Most of these headunits are made in China, but they work pretty well.

If google would let you download a north american cache then their navigation would be fine. I personally don't have much interest in relying on a data connection.

The BRZ will have Aha app integration on the head unit which works with Mog and Slacker radio via an app installed on your smartphone.

You can make Google Maps precache your route when you start navigation.

I thought I read somewhere this only works on ICS and above. Do you know?

True, but I can also just write directions down. The advantage of GPS is that it is dynamic, if you get off route you are not screwed. That and should your device encounter a problem you can just pick right back up.

Especially with a car that loves backroads which are often in rural areas, having persistent data is advantageous. A precached route is nice but not ideal.

That Sygic apps looks interesting. As much as I hate to admit it, I like the looks of the BRZ enough (not to mention my preorder already in place) that I would still opt for it over the FR-S, but I am probably going to replace the Navigation before its due time. $1400 is a lot for HID's. Oh well, hopefully there is a market for a gently used factory nav.

My next concern would be whether an Android head unit would have hardware that could recieve FM traffic, if so Android navigation apps will probably be written to use it.
