The most boring was.... hmm, not sure. Its about a 20 way tie, and frankly I'm pretty sure that's forgetting about half of em.
The most surprising was the 2001 Chevy Tahoe. I went in expecting a funny looking truck and got something that was a lot closer to a car driving experience. Quiet, nice ride and the thing even would even do a decent drift on leaving driveways. As a bonus, when I picked up a 2002 there were a few years where I could say, dude, even my tow vehicle is faster than... The most disappointing was hands down the Porsche 356. It's a good thing Porsche had a solid racing arm to get them through to the 911, although early 911's are pretty disappointing too. O |

The most disappointing car I have ever driven in my entire life was the BMW X1 M Sport. The stupid eco engine kill switch (unless you stop it, every time you stop it turns the engine off. Ugh I hate this.) and the stupidest gearing, coupled with a transmission filled with Marshmallow Fluff that hides everything the car is doing. Handling was awful and the turbo spool sounded like a hairdryer.
Borrowed it from a friend to make a trip to pick him up from the train station and have never had a more unpleasant drive. Everything about the controls is in the wrong place too - they hid turn signals and controls over a foot from where they are by standards in every other car. I have kept this rant bottled up for a while, he loves the car.

Exactly. The paradigm has drifted. The same 240SX kid making fun of the BRZ's 200hp forgets his JDM uberphat swapped SR20 made the same thing back in the day and it took a turbo and at the time was considered respectable.

I think the most disappointing car I've ever driven was an old three litre SC that a friend found on craigslist. We drove an hour and change up the coast to see it because the pictures looked promising (Grand Prix white, Euro car, no sunroof, etc), only to find it was in much worse shape than it looked like in the ad. I know it's not really a fair target because the car was clearly extremely poorly maintained (I'm sure it would have driven a lot better if it was well looked after), but this thing was just a dog. The paint was fucked (rust bubbles, chips everywhere, etc), and there was rust in a bunch of places there shouldn't have been. It didn't want to start, it smoked, it was leaking oil. The clutch pedal felt like it wasn't connected to anything and the clutch had a super abrupt engagement (that you couldn't feel through the pedal) and felt like it was slipping horribly. The transmission was utter garbage: the lever felt completely disconnected from the gearbox and it didn't feel like there were actual slots for the gears. You'd go to put the thing in first and the first few tries you'd just immediately hit a gate or something, then eventually you'd find the opening for first and the stick would flop lifelessly forward about half and inch, and you'd be sat there wondering why it wouldn't go into gear now that you'd found the gate. Then after a while you'd slowly let the clutch out to see what would happen and you'd find you actually were already in gear (god knows why the stick didn't move more than half an inch and you couldn't feel the box slotting into a gear at all, but whatever). Then you'd have to deal with the awful, Logitech-feeling, slipping clutch again to get started. Literally I don't think I've ever handled a worse transmission / drivetrain.
What a piece of shit car that was. The hope of finding something in passable shape only made it more disappointing. Credit to Porsche though: despite awful condition of the car, even on antique, rotting tyres, once you DID get it into gear, started, and out of first, the car STILL sounded good and felt like it wanted to devour corners. Say what you will, Porsche make some pretty bullet-proof cars. I'm sure an SC that had had a wrench used near it in the last 20 years would be a real treat to drive! |

Back many, many years ago I had a 70 Cornet R/T with the 440 magnum engine and "6 pack" carb setup. It produced what we thought in it's day was massive WHP, all 385 of it! It wasn't near as easy to wring much more out of them either as they pretty much came topped out as stock. When you consider it was an almost 4000 pound car then the ratios are way off by today's standards. I bet the drive train alone weighed almost as much as an FRS, that engine was freakn' heavy!

For me it was an automatic gen2 subaru outback, what a slushbucket of a tranny. Bought the 5 speed, liked it and had one for just under 10 years.

This exactly, with a few bolt ons my sr20 makes 400hp Cheap power, however it is a track car I would list my disappointing cars but they're Australian so most of u won't know em lol But I recently purchased and am waiting for this to turn up ![]() We call em a hsv vf r8 - 6.2 L v8 Which I am still going to call underpowered I am guessing (Haven't driven one yet, probably should have before I shelled out 70k lol) But the whole point of a brz/86 isn't the power, if it was then every one would buy one for the price tag !!! It's a drivers car, it takes someone who can appreciate it to understand !

Curious - what about the Stingray didn't you like? I sat shotgun in one at a track day and thought it was good value for the money. Acceleration was strong, the sense of stability on corner exit was great (thank you PTM/track mode), and even the interior was decent.
