Would dealer warranty this? 4th gear

So like so many others on this board my manual transmission is not exactly a smooth shifter and its because of the syncros.

It has always shifted little notched 1st to 2nd especially when cold.

What has gotten worse and is now a consistent and repeatable problem is the shift from 4th to 5th. There is now a guaranteed grind when going from 4th to 5th.

The catch is the grind only happens when shifting at high speeds and rpms.
If I shift when the engine is spun up to over 5000 rpm from acceleration (this meas I'm going 100+ mph, please no lecture about safety I know its not safe on public roads) there is a guaranteed grind. Its actually getting worse vs a few months ago.

My question is will the dealer warranty this? I'm wondering because they wont get the issue to appear unless they drive the car above the legal limits. I am not sure if they will deny it since that classifies me as driving the car unsafe or something

Opinions? Should I take it in?

The top of third gear is 82ish MPH. Unless you mean 4th to 5th I would get it checked. If you are shifting 3rd to 4th and getting grinding I would let them road test and figure it out.

Take it to the dealer, they will most likely warranty it. I had an issue anytime upshifting from 3rd to 4th above 4,500RPM it would grind. They ended up replacing my transmission. First they had to verify my car wasn't "raced", (I have quiet a few mods) but that basically entailed checking my clutch and flywheel for any abuse (Premature wear, blueing, etc).

Also, 5k RPM in third is not over 100MPH thats more around 55-60PMH.
Just have the tech come with you on a drive.

Bring it to the dealership before doing anything to it.

Argue your point, bring in evidence, and be persistent.

I am currently working on getting a new transmission. Slow going but it looks like mine will be replaced.

I had this with 3-4 shifts and only above 3500 rpms whether granny shifting or shifting fast. Take it in and hopefully they'll replace it with no hassle.

Same exact issue as mine. It is fairly common unfortunately.

Dealerships gladly do warranty work (should anyways) because they get paid for it from Subaru. However, there are certain steps that dealer must follow to authorize the work. Do not take this the wrong way, the dealership is merely covering their own ass.

Bring it in and go for a test drive with the dealerships master technician. If you can "reproduce" the issue, the dealer will take care of it.

If your dealership is still reluctant, go to another, they will want to do it!

Good luck
