I'd have to agree with him. I had an 04 STi before the BRZ. I've literally pulled up to a light next to another brz, where he pulled up 2nd so he HAD to see I was there, and I sit waving and staring at him (creepy, yah) with nothin on his end. And this has happened a few times. The BRZ community feels a lot more like the boy racer feel than the STI did. But I also moved stats from having the STi to the BRZ and I'm sure that contributes to this.

It may have something to do with where you live, too. Even when I drove a WRX many other WRX drivers wouldn't wave, but the people in STis or anyone on a skateboard would. When I drove to North Carolina to visit family, every WRX, STi, LGT, BRZ, and Forrester XT driver would wave. It was kind of exhausting.

Now that I have the BRZ, the STi drivers and I still wave, although there are only a few around. I've only come across one other BRZ driver on the road so far, and he was waving so enthusiastically he almost hopped out his window. I was laughing so hard I almost couldn't wave back.

I used to own an STI and the communities seem similar to me.

- In both, you get waves from fellow owners.
- Owners of Twins are probably a little bit younger (probably because they're cheaper cars), but nothing wrong with that.
- I've had other Twins park next to me. That never happened when I had an STI, but that's probably because there are less STI's out there overall.

I don't really get the point of him comparing communities though. Unless you've been a part of both, you don't really know, and more importantly, who cares?

Been apart of both, bay area subaru/impreza/wrx, sti, forester community much closer and active especially the forums. I posted for help on the norcal ft86 page last week and didnt get 1 reply. Im going to ask the i-club.com guys instead and they have always been helpful and ive returned the favor on multiple occasions because of positive experiences. When i first got my brz i tried waving to other 86's and after the 5th non acknowledgement i stopped. I sense they are non enthusiast or ricers. All the modded 86s ive seen just do fly bys. I have purchased items from nice people on local classifieds though.

I used to get waves and thumbs up all day in my sti. And lurk on the forum constatntly cause there woupd be new posts. Here not so much. I miss the rumble, the powah, the awd, and the community.

But i still like my brz.

WRX/STI guys are just mad that they get statistically more tickets than the Twins do!

I agree with what everyone else said in this thread and what other STi people say, because I'm a conformist.

I wouldn't consider that statement rude, he's just drawing an opinion about that many 86 drivers really aren't the same kind of Subaru enthusiasts that STi owners are. I've seen a middle aged lady driving a red BRZ, she's probably not going to park next to you at the grocery and no she doesn't want to come to your car meet.

A rude statement would be something like him saying the car is a slow, POS, or some other kind of ignorant comment. Like I've had someone on the internet (who drives an STi) that flat out said he refuses to wave to BRZ's or any non-turbocharged Subaru and that we didn't belong in their community. This was when the whole battlewagon and taking glamor shots of your hellaflush stickers was trendy. I told him to go eat a bag of ****s.

I've gotten waves from wrx and sti owners. I used to own an sti and WRX and no longer have them.
We are a Subaru family. Love is what makes a Subaru. Maybe his sti is an evo underneath?

i found it rude when he said everyone were young kids who bought the car just because it looks cool.

I can understand that point but to say everyone is like that is a little naive. There are a ton of people who aren't as young as he thinks they are and I'm sure there are plenty who are car enthusiasts and not people who just buy it because it looks cool.

Not gonna lie though...they look cool lol

I see most guys in their late 30s and early 40s in 86s and BRZs around here. The younger Japanese guys seem to care even less for sports cars than do American youth. They play GT4, 5 whatever the hell it's up to now, all day, but actually go drive a real car on the edge, nope. They have an app for that. There are exceptions, sure, but most of the kids are not doers, they are watchers. They dress up slow, automatic cars with loud exhausts and shift light tachs and roll slowly making noise. I like to crack the wastegate on them to remind them they should be embarrassed for being a poser. They can't handle my 60hp turbo kei truck so I know a stock BRZ will get it done if they want to match their baby nuts up.

So, one more 40 something dude rolling around in a bone stock BRZ with a smile on a well oiled swivel ready to flip to a frown before testing some snot nose kid with a fart pipe. Fine; I'll be that guy.
