Well, you may be removing me from the 1st 86 list tomorrow. My dealer is trying to screw me on my trade, so I'm probably going to walk away.it sucks too because I was looking forward to getting it Friday, but I'm not taking $2,000 less than my car is worth.

Sorry to hear that.

My dealer is really trying to milk the marketing out of this and theyre making a huge deal out of it. If yours is doing the same, Id bring it up during negotiations.

It doesn't surprise me honestly. If they don't give me a respectable offer by tomorrow I'll just call Scion and tell them I'm not buying the car.

What kills me is they have a silver 05 tC, manual, with 110K miles and they're asking $9000. Mine is a silver 06, auto, with 123k & leather interior, clean in & out. And they only offer me $5300.

Can they give an explanation for that?

I haven't asked. I told them I'd take $6500, which is average trade-in, but not less. At this point it's the principle.

kmbkk - Sell it on your own. I was offered $3500 for our 04 Manual Scion xB with 110k by my dealer. We sold it on Autotrader for $7200. Edmunds and KBB said it should be sold, private party, for $5800. So we got even more than we should have got! Perhaps it's the unique case of first-gen xBs not often coming up for sale, but what I think it comes down to is the used car market is a GREAT place to be selling right now, not buying. You should be able to get at least what those sites recommend in private party sale.

At least go to Carmax to see what they would offer. Or, you can appraise your car on Autotrader, see the value, and get in touch with dealers that will buy it from you for that much. On Autotrader, I was being offered $5600, in cash, to head down the local Honda dealership and just sell it to them for cash. Again, a good deal more than the $3500 I was offered by my dealer.

I was too, and like I said, it happened to me. Dealers make money off of add-ons, financing, price of the car, and your trade value. With the First-86 group, add-ons and the price can't be changed. Tell the dealer you are getting financing elsewhere (which I did), and the only place the profit the dealer has any control over is your trade value.

The worst part of it is (or best part if you're the dealer), is that for us First 86ers, they know we have no choice to buy the car from them - no shopping around for trade values from other Scion dealers.

Carmax isn't a player for me. The closest one is 180 miles away. Also, most of the dealers around where I live don't give crap for cars, so selling my car to a dealership isn't practical either. I'll just keep my car and get something better at a later date. This could be a blessing in disguise.

Just brought my HotLava home

Took a long time at the dealer. Fun with everyone coming out to take pictures of it. Just as I was driving out, another FR-S from Scion corporate pulled up so then more pictures. Home now after an enjoyable drive. No front plate and I *really* like the color.
