I had a similar experience with a preferred shop. Terrible paint work, didn't put in body panel/fender well clips. I had to take it back to shop three times. Rear bumper was painted twice times, and completely replaced twice. Fight with insurance have them send out their adjuster to confirm the shops' shoddy work. They will usually give you a check or let you take it to another shop. Don't forget to file for diminished value. Insurance will usually cut you a pretty good check for depreciated value.

He said he went with an aluminum hood to keep it as close to factory as possible. He said we may be able to get a steel hood though.

Are ya'lls hoods this wobbly/flexible?

What does the structure look like on the underside of the hood (what the insulation is covering)? I doubt that's an OEM hood - mines nowhere near the wobbly. Then again, maybe the hinges are installed incorrectly / not torqued properly.

And if they're offering you a steel hood, they're definitely not using OEM / Subaru parts. The original hood is aluminum, and they are supposed to replace with factory new parts.

Do not go with a steel hood (if it's even available). Way too heavy and that weight will make a difference in handling. Obviously this guy does not know much about this car, or even Subarus in general to even make a suggestion like that.

That's not true, it depends on the amount of damage and the state. It doesn't hurt to ask.

Tell him to use oem parts and not cheap non-oem parts there lies your issue. That thing looks like its garbage are hoods are not that flimsy sounds like they used cheap parts and just pocketed the rest of the insurance money.

You're right. I shouldn't have said you can't do it, but Georgia is the only state that requires diminished value to be paid on first party claims. Other states are only required for 3rd party claims. While you could still file a claim against your own insurance for diminished value in certain states, they can possibly raise your rates, and it is not likely worth the hassle in most cases in my opinion. I researched it when I hit a deer with my brand new brz of 3 months, and determined it was not going to be worth the trouble for me. Especially because i'm the kind of person that will keep a car forever and not try to trade it in after a few years, so the loss of value won't really affect me. From what i've read, You may be able to successfully claim it if you try to sell the car right after the accident, but find that you can't sell it for what it should be worth due to the accident.

I tend to keep cars until they run into the ground also. For me it was more about receiving money that i was entitled to. I think the average consumer is unaware that diminished value even exists. It appears to be a mythical unicorn for most. To be honest the process for filing it was not that difficult (in WA state). Regardless of whether or not i sell my car in the future(despite all the stupid warranty issues I've had) any accidents repaired under insurance will still be on its record and will probably be used against its value.
