Look fast but aren't? I thought that's the whole idea behind the twins?

0-60 in the low/mid 6's is pretty slow these days. But to be fair, they should have also mentioned some other surprisingly slow cars:
- Miata - BMW 220i - MB CLA250 - Mini Cooper S - Honda Civic SI etc.

A segment is a class of cars ala 4 door sedans. They are comparing the Mazda to other 4 door sedans. They even mention that it is the only one that does not come with a turbo or V6. It is the best handling car in THAT segment.

I'd rather have a good-looking slow car than an ugly fast one.
I notice no one is clamoring for a fast Nissan Leaf or Cube.

@strat61caster If the mazda 6 is one of the "Best Handling Cars" in the sub 30k 4 door sedan segment. MSN needs to drive more 4 door sedans.

FWIW, I've driven the 6 and thought it handled fairly well for its class.

If the author puts a Scion in his top list he might lose his sophistication and street cred.

Could be.
I have no issue with the article. The twins are not quick comparatively speaking. They are pretty fast though. a lot of guys have had stock ones up to 145-147 mph. The just do not there quickly. What so many journalist and car people seem to ignore is that fast (actually quickness) is only one performance parameter. Many "fast" cars fail at a lot of other performance parameters such as handling, feel, MPG, braking, fun, level of confidence. So what if the twins are not as "fast" as some. They check a lot of other boxes that the others do not. Dollar for dollar they are still a great "all round performance car". Some people are just too narrow minded to see that it is all about the whole package.

I thought it no more than an underhanded compliment for the twins. They complimented its looks. Mentioned its excellent handing the went on to site other examples of classes of cars none of which had better straight line acceleration than the twins.
