Ya it sucks when people put joke locations for where they are from in their profile as it really can effect answers.
In Canada a twin will cost you close to $30K just for the car. Then you add taxes and all the other fees you can easily be pushing $36K out the door. Maybe OP is in Canada? Not sure where their "Home" is.

1. Weight
2. Weight 3. RWD There isn't a lighter new car with a fixed roof & RWD under $40k right now. Even if you go used, the closest we've got for the past 10 years that was mass produced was the RX-8. The used options open up considerably: Lotus, Porsche, 'Vette, Z. If you're really willing to get your hands dirty then the options open up considerably, I've got a yearning for 80's cars at the moment and I think most are as light or lighter than the Toyobaru, slower in stock configuration but that's part of the fun ![]() 4. Reliability 5. Shiny At this point I would never buy a new car again if I could help it, even a few years old makes me hesitate. I just don't see the benefits aside from a clean service record which in these cars is really just a couple fluid changes. But, it really only makes sense to compare new cars and there are a ton of great options out there in the budget of <$30k built in the last 3-4 years: 1. RWD: MIATA 2. FWD: Mini Cooper S, GTI, Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Mazdaspeed3, Abarth 3. Heavy RWD: 370Z, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, BMW Edit: Forgot the cons: 1. $$$ You can get many more smiles per dollar if you're willing to get grease under your fingernails, one of my few regrets buying this which is why I'm researching potential project cars, but I don't think this applies to the guy cross shoping a brand new BMW. 2. Other people 'y didn't you get the subaru?6.3seconds 2 60 lol!sparkplugs!Scionlol!v8!' 3. It's actually a sports car, quite a few people buy these thinking they're getting a lighter more reliable Lexus that they saw Clarkson slide around on Top Gear. They're getting a Subaru sports car for under $30k: noisy, rattly, flimsy, and torqueless. Worth mentioning since you brought it up, the resale isn't the same as a corolla/camry/prius, the demand simply isn't there. I would gamble that the resale is better than a BMW accounting for percentage lost (definitely in cash lost, lower entry point, less to go down) but don't be shocked when you're out >$5k after less than two years ownership, including taxes I'll be at best $8k at the 2 year mark if I sell, could be as much as $10k if I go through a dealership or don't want to wait. lol someones cranky. they are actually quite cheap with low monthly depending on credit ofc but as a young male with no credit i found it to be quite affordable on a minimum wage part time job.. easy to mod, big community, relatively cheap parts and ofc toyota/subaru reliability is a big plus. however, being 6'5 and having to drive with my seat all the way back, there is no chance of anyone using the back seats while im driving. when i went for the test drive with my lady and the salesperson, my gf had to sit with her legs up across the back seats because of the very limited leg room. car seats do fit back there and if someone isnt 6'2+ up front then the back seats are useable for small children and such and i do like that having the seats back there drops the insurance because it is just a two door instead of a sportscar on the paperwork. overall this car handles and drives very well and is so much fun to drive. rides smooth for how low it sits, turns smoothly, brakes well, slides well (lol) accelerates well after 4k (needs low end turbo or supercharger) and does pretty well on gas mileage (coming from a previous prius owner) |

Had this discussion on another thread just the other day actually. The term expensive is obviously very subjective and dependent on income, debt load, credit availability, etc, etc Warning Following Comment May be Considered Blasphemy on Here: With the amount of miles I pile up every year I have no interest in buying a more costly car even though it would technically be within my means to do so. These cars are to me the almost perfect "throw away" sports car. I can drive it for 3 or 4 years and then just unload it for whatever little I can get for it and get a new one. It is good on gas, reliable and I feel safer in it then in many bigger "better" cars while spending great amounts of time on the highway. The bumper, hood and sides of mine already look like I drove through a war zone and that is just from long hours spent on the highway. Even though it upsets me to see my baby hurt I would be much, much more upset if it was a $100K+ Porsche. I don't abuse my car and actually take far better care of it than appearances would make people think but it gets driven a lot! Sooo...I figure I can chew up 2 or 3 of these and still be ahead of the game then if I owned something more expensive. I would rather see my car depreciate from $30K to $10K then from $100K to $30K Besides having test drove several way more expensive cars, I actually like the FRS the best anyway!!!!!

i completely agree. it always bothers me how your car can depreciate before your first oil change but it is what it is. it is such a fun car to drive and the way it handles makes you feel like you could be driving a 50k car.

Noooo...someone had a bowl of pedant. Lovely with warm milk. (<---Flippant)
As I have stated before it is difficult to establish a poster's emotional "tone" just from reading a comment. (<--- A little bit serious. The inaccuracy of the post peeved me.)

I own both a 128i (my wife's car, but close enough to a new 328 to make my point) and a FR-S. Here's my take:
The BMW is nicer, quieter, smoother, better for distance, more prestigious, more impressive to park, has a better engine, carries passengers better, has a better stereo, etc. But The FR-S is a sports car. It handles better. It's infinitely more fun. I like it 100x more. It's also cheaper to own/fix/run/etc and isn't pretentious. Main thing? YOU pick your own car, don't let anybody else do it for you, especially if you are the one paying for it. |
