And maybe they did! The problem again is now that timeline becomes the norm so we would never know.

Not a movie, but one of my favorite episodes of Stargate SG1 is "Window of Opportunity" where Teal'c and Colonel O'Neill relive are caught in a 10 hour loop that they live over and over again ala Groundhog Day.
