Keep radio running

I know you can keep the radio running by having the car in 1st gear and taking your foot off the clutch... But does this damage the engine at all? Isn't this essentially stalling your car?

Is there another way to do this? When your on a call or listening to the radio you shouldn't have to turn the car off then turn it back on in ACC mode to get this functionality. (FYI - I have push button start if that changes anything).

I can't imagine anyone in their right mind intentionally stalling their car to simply keep the radio on. If you have a push button starter, push the start/stop button once to turn the engine off and then, while in neutral, push the start/stop button again with the clutch disengaged to put the ignition in accessory mode. What am I missing and how is this an inconvenience if you've already turned the engine off?

OP is this your first Manual/push button start car????

Edit: okay i'm starting to think i understand OP here, let's say he's on a phone call or listening to jams over blutooth, but wants to turn off the engine, unlike a traditional key turning off the engine puts you in the ACC position, while push button start turns everything off, Stalling the engine will kill the engine however the electronics remain on,

But then again, after you turn off your engine couldn't you just continue your conversation or listen to your tunes directly from your phone assuming you reached your destination.

I know that the following definitely works with the AT car. This was posted by AznBRZer: While stopped but still in gear (brake on), turn the engine off, then place gear shifter in park.
I guess that for the MT, you have already tried turning off the engine while still in gear. Or maybe have you tried shutting off the engine while in neutral with handbrake on?
This is definitely a significant inconvenience that you would think, should have warranted a work-around by the car manufacturers.

Every car I have ever had or seen with push button start requires you to turn it off then back on to get to the accessory setting.
Deliberately stalling to keep the radio on? Really?
My god, is a 10 second operation or interference in your music listening really that big a deal?

Doesn't work with a manual transmission.

People have asked this same question repeatedly since this car first came out, and there doesn't appear to be any reasonable way to do it. Killing the engine by dumping the clutch with the car in gear? Don't do that.

I have no useful suggestions, but I've got to say, adding this to the list of reasons I don't understand the obsession with push-button start. I have absolutely nothing in the PROs column and a long list of CONs.

I'm all for new fangled gadgetry but it has to add functionality without taking away basics.

There really is no reason that the push/stop shouldn't stop the engine, put the car in AUX mode, and then shut AUX mode off once the door is open or the key moves out of range, or after a certain time.

My Suburban already does this with the key (no push button), and it is a 2004. When you shut it off, the AUX power stays on even if you remove the key, for 10 minutes unless you open the door. Not exactly new technology.

I wish the FR-S did this.

you can just press the Start/Stop button twice to get to accessory mode

I believe the OPs issue is he wants to turn off the engine without losing power until pressing the second time so you don't drop a call, cut off music, etc.

I do understand his frustration, it would drive me nuts too if my car did that as I use this function all the time. For example, I come to a train track and am stopped by a long freight train, I'll turn off the engine rather than idle for 15 minutes. Or, I will sometimes do it when I pull into the garage and want to finish a conversation or listening to a song. Don't want to leave the engine running in the garage for obvious reasons.

Just run the head unit power directly from the battery. Then, all you have to do is turn the volume down when you get out of the car, turn it right back up when you get back into the driver's seat.

Next thread: "Dead Battery?!?"

I kid, I kid. I miss my push-button starts, my previous three cars had it. I'm still getting used to having to fish the keys out of my pocket before I get to my car.

I miss mine as well as last 3 had that feature. I still mutter angrily to myself every time I have to pull the keys out of my pocket.
What I don't get is the big concern about having to turn the car off and back on to get to aux. It literally is as easy as pushing a button 2 times.
If you can't stand to miss that 10 seconds of a song or don't want to drop a call just sit and idle until you can shut down and go to aux. Simple!

Unless you are in a closed garage, and not ready for a nap.
