Climate Control Issue

Hey everyone, new here. I have the dual climate control option on my BRZ. Every time I turn on the heat or cooling, my AC turns on. I cant figure out how to turn that option off. It seems like the "Auto" mode is stuck on? Any ideas? Thanks!

It's normal. Remember what "A/C" stands for (Air Conditioning, not just cooling). In this case the car is using the A/C system to de-humidify the air, which keeps the windows from fogging up. It's conditioning the air!

Is there a way to disable it so that every time I turn on the unit, the ac doesn't automatically come on?

Not that I am aware without something drastic like permanently disabling the A/C system. Why don't you want it on? Are you looking for that extra few HP?

95% of the time I turn it on, I immediately turn it back off. Im just afraid of damaging something in the process of turning it on and off quickly.

You won't damage anything. Older vehicles had A/C right next to the off position so that you had to pass through A/C mode when you wanted to use the heat or anything, which bumped the compressor and kept it from freezing in an unused position.

Again, though, why do you need to turn it off? Just leave it on and enjoy the nice air...?

Leave it alone. The system is dehumidifying the cabin.

I always hit AUTO and turn the AC off if it wants to come on. The rest of the system continues to function the same.

Not sure if performance drop is same in winter, but I definitely feel it in summer, and only run AC when in cruise control on the highway.

I turn off the a/c to prevent condensation from forming in the system and causing that moldy smell. Only leave the a/c on when I really need it, like in the summer or when my windows start fogging up.

Why does the AC always come on with auto mode? Normally it's only for defogger and actual cold air conditioning. Kind of annoying.

The reason the A/C comes on when you press auto is because while its warming the car, its also dehumidifying the air. It does that to keep the inside comfortable, but mainly to keep your windows from fogging up.
