Work or worked at a dealership? Need help.

Wussup guys, picking up my FRS this week or next week and I got a quick question to anyone who knows. My parents are trying to pick up the FRS Dec 7th, however the dealership wants us to pick it up by Nov 30th. They said they are not allowed to keep sold cars on the lot after the month ends. They said on Dec 1st the DMV will audit their inventory, and if they find a sold car they will receive a fine.

I haven't given my down payment yet but they said they have already sent my documents to the DMV to be processed. The only papers we signed were the ones agreeing on the interest rate and we are willing to buy the car. We haven't signed the final ok lets seal the deal paper.

Reason for my parents not complying to buy it before Nov 30th is because they said all the days before then are bad luck. (Asian Parents), and that Dec 7th is the best day to pick it up. Not super important but please if someone could shed some light on the DMV/Dealer side and which actions and options I have that would be great. Thanks guys.

Unless it's only for December, then I can't say. I paid for my 2nd car all at once with a check. The car sat on their lot for almost a month because they needed time for the check to clear. I paid for in May, picked it up in early June. My DMV stickers say May.

I don't work at a dealership, but just from common sense that sounds like a huge load of bullshite.

1. The DMV is not going to send someone down to count cars or inspect VIN's on the lot. They just do not have that kind of staffing level.

2. If you still haven't paid for the car yet, it is their car. Regardless of if they sent documents to the DMV or not, you don't have to do anything for them.

3. The only thing I can imagine to be similar to what this person told you, without assuming they were completely lying, is that they have to report inventory themselves and then pay taxes on it. Tough titties, that's their responsibility and I wouldn't do a dealership any favors.

4. In truth, this guy probably just wants to meet some November quota for himself and is 100% lying to you.

They're just trying to meet November quotas.

Tell him you'll just have to go to another dealer.

I've put down deposits on cars and waited over a month before I could arrange a trip to pick it up, no problems ever.

Idk how they do it in Ca but in wi they do send someone to do inventory check with the vins. i always send the newbies to go talk to him on the lot as a joke. Lol. But it is a quota thing and they prob want to count it for the end of the month. I don't think they can registered the car if you didn't sign paper work. Worst comes to worst is that they will sell the car to someone else if you don't finilize. No reason to hold a car if you have someone right there that's ready to buy it..

I don't mean to be nosy but any reason you didn't "finlize" the sale?

But the easy thing they can do is to just park it in customer parking and put a "sold" sign with a divert date on it. Atleast I know what we do at my dealership. They just need to move it out of the "for sale" spots. No biggie.

OP did not sign a bill of sale nor has he given any funds towards the vehicle. Technically, the dealer owns the car and the DMV has no issue with that. This is purely a move to get the sale counted in November rather than next month.

What this really means is this dealer is a sleeze ball and you're better off buying some where else.

If they want to sell you this car .... they will work around your schedule. If not .... plenty of other cars out there.

I've worked at a few..

The salesman might be a car or two short of getting a bonus by the end of the month so he needs you to sign to be locked in to meet that goal.

Cars sit at lots all of the time with sold stickers. Mine was at Subaru for almost two weeks waiting on the DMV bullish.

"Lot attendants" (That was my first job) are typically responsible for "auditing" the cars on the lot. This is not the DMV's job.

It's just a load of shit. If he can't accommodate you, which I see no reason why they can't, then go elsewhere.

100% agreed.

I work at a dealership as well, and have sold vehicles in a previous month, but didn't deliver them until the next month due to whatever reason.

We can be fined for not having a FTC sticker/window sticker in a car that's for sale, but all you have to do is put a "sold" tag in one that you've taken the sticker out of to avoid that. It should have nothing to do with your situation.

Your salesperson apparently only cares about making the sale, not you. I'd take my business elsewhere.
