I traded my '06 BMW 330Ci Convertible for this. It was depreciating too fast and cost-of-ownership was going up with maintenance and repairs. I drive my cars on the aggressive side and 18k of mileage a year. Only got $5k for the trade-in ($46k new).

I'll miss that drop-top and power, for sure, but I have no regrets with my BRZ. 900 lbs. lighter, far better handling, easier on gas... list goes on.

My first car was a 1996 4Runner SR5 with 150K miles on it. I didn't trade it in, because my brother was learning how to drive and needed a car. So he's got the 4Runner and he gets to learn how to keep an older car running, while I get to work on something more fun

If you're one of those people who only cares about labels, then yeah, I traded down.

I traded in a 2004 Lexus RX330 for the FRS. The Lexus looked fine; it was clean, comfy, smooth, all the usual qualities for a Lexus, but the serpentine belt would never stfu, even after replacing it twice. The alignment was off so the car would always veer to the left on the highway unless you turned the wheel about 5 degrees to the right at all times.

I asked all my car-friends, and they agreed with me that I should expect about $3,000 on trade in. The Toyota dealership offered me $10,000. I was so shocked that I immediately accepted the offer, even though I probably could have haggled for more.

While I do sometimes miss having the space and luxury of the Lexus, the Scion is still just a better car for me.

I feel bad for whoever now owns that Lexus.

I just took in on trade a 2006 4runner with 296k on it the other day. 4runner's and Tacoma's seem like they know no bounds when it comes to longevity.

Yep! It's still running fine, but it's not the fastest. Hence why my little brother gets it :p

The previous owners took little to no care of it though, so I spent most of my time in college fixing it up.

Tough to say. I had an E30 before this. It was worth WAY less than the BRZ, but was super fun to drive at 2,500 pounds. Great style IMO, too.
Before that was a 986, B5 A4 and E28.

Prius lease to a FRS lease. Needed a little more driving excitement in my life.

It was just as fast as the BRZ in a straight line. But I liked the engine a LOT more than the BRZ. WAY smoother, better sound and felt like more torque.

So when you say you traded down you literally mean down!

I traded up, as fun as that car was, it was not as nice as my 13' FR-S.

Went from a 2005 Legacy GT to a 2013 BRZ, feel like I "traded" up, I wanted a RWD car I could daily and track occasionally. I really love my e30 and wanted an e46 M3 but figured the overall costs would be a lot lower with the BRZ.
