Guess a lot of that is the whole "glory days" thing.
Actually I think the more crappy the first car, the better memories, particularly if you paid for it yourself.

Haha. I went looking for a stock photo of a white 1977 Toyota Celica, my first car, and what do you know, my old car is currently for sale in my home town. :-)

I bought it in 2002, my senior year of high school for $1000. It had 189k miles on it then, so I highly doubt the current mileage is 140k. I sold it for $500.

Still has the awful steering wheel cover that I put on it. Black arm rests and steering wheel that I scavenged from Chelan auto yard. Green and gold corduroy upholstery. Looks like it's got a few more rust spots than it did ten years ago. That little car was bullet-proof. Someone should go and save it!

Edit: A buddy of mine actually had some old photos of my first cars! The Supra is his, he still daily drives it, now with 350k miles and totally rebuilt. The root beer '71 Firebird was my very first car, a project given to me when I was sixteen, I only drove (sailed) it once and it was awful. The little white '77 Celica is what I consider my first car, bought with my own money and drove it for about five years.

Pretty sure most of my old cars (or at least their molecules) are spread out over many, newer cars, soup cans, rebar, any other product made from recycled steel by now!

Yea, there's about zero chance any of my first 3 or 4 cars still exist in their original form. If I stumbled across one, it would probably take a lot of effort on my part not to purchase them!

1973 Mach 1 Mustang. 351C with cobra jet heads, weiand intake mani, Holley 650 carb, msd ignition, etc. I loved that car, but became too impractical for college. I sold it to my Dad for a 1998 reg cab Tacoma.

Looking back on it, the car wasn't exactly pretty. It was more like "V8 muscle car pahr!" at that point in my life. 16 year old with a lead foot!

Still some good times in that car though. (:

I thought of getting another 64 SS, even went so far as to look at one. Once I saw it, it clicked in that it was my 64 I really wanted. Since it was long gone and another just wasn't going to cut it I passed it up. Besides for the $35K they wanted I figured I could get something more practical and just as fun!
Loved the days of driving my classics but don't have a shop anymore and not a hobby to be in if you have to pay somebody to do any work.

Agreed, it would have to be MY car, not just any old '64 Polara, or '63 Falcon 2-door, or '65 Falcon wagon or....

1957 Volkswagen Beetle. Commonly called "Hitlers Revenge" back in the old days up here. Great winter car, but froze my ass off as this was before the gas heaters.

Tried to get a 3 wheeled Messerschmitt, but ended up with a Ford Falcon (I heard that the 1st Mustang was just a glorified Falcon, so I bought one for 100 bucks.

A month later it was toast and I ended up with a Corvair. Fun car !
Then the controversy of Corvairs splitting in half so I ended up with a motorcycle instead ! LOL

Dad bought my first car. It was a 98' Civic EX Coupe for $4,100 with 120k on it. This was back in 07' when I graduated high school. I drove it to 190k, bought my first real car myself and gave the civic to my brother around 10' as his first car. He drove it to 260k and traded it in for $300 to buy his first real car.

I swear, we did absolutely nothing to that car aside from fill it with gas, keep it insured, and change the oil and tires. That thing saw so many road trips, girlfriends, and late night mischief. Heartbreaker for sure but it helped get my brother and I off the ground. I love my dad.

1986 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale Brougham Coupe. Only thing longer than the name were the doors, which (in typical 80s GM style) would cause the windows to fall off track and into the door if you tried to shut them without the window securely closed.

Only changes to the car were green interior neons and more than the car's value in speakers, because teenager in the 90s.

Not just the 80's ones!
I still shudder every time I close/open my doors on the FRS and the auto up/down function makes the thunk noise. Back in the day with my 64 SS that sound meant another hour of work retrieving yet another fallen window!
Actually got pretty good at it after a few dozen times.
