Kids need to stop priding themselves like completing high school is some huge achievement, and they deserve praise. The parents should not be bribed for something you're suppose to be doing.
High school is considered work nowadays because how you well you do in H.S. is a deciding factor in which college you end up in which also has an impact on one's career. Maybe you see it as easy due to you being older, but it may not be easy for students in the school. Times have changed and so has the curricular in school. Of course its common sense for one is expected to go to high school and receive a provided education, but to actually excel in school and be above the average at a school requires more work than what most kids would put in. Don't assume they don't have any other responsibilities. I have seen students in high school whom actually work just to help their parents pay off bills. It may not be their responsibility to help pay off the bills as they are still kids, but they may feel like it is theirs.

Kids should pride themselves in completing high school but they shouldn't feel like they deserve a praise. High school is a stepping stone to what can be better in the future for them. I agree with you parents shouldn't be bribing for something basic like going to high school and graduating since most kids are able to do that. But in this case, OP isn't bribing his son at all for that basic subject. He didn't buy his son a FRS (it's a used one not even a new one) for just going to high school. He did it because his son deserved it for actually putting a lot of effort into school(by being an honor student and depending on the school, honor student can be something that is relatively hard to get) and using his free time over summer to find job experiences where other kids would just be going out and having fun.

I'd say I feel like it's much more difficult, just because the difficulty of high school was 0, never had to even try. Here I gotta try to get good grades - I mean if I just wanted to pass, yeah i'd pass without putting much effort. But in HS 0 effort was still an A.

Lol this shit is hilarious. High school is competitive for those who are competitive. Your average Joe who gets average grades is not there, instead it is these kids who are taking every AP class in the book to get over a 4.0 while doing crazy extracurriculars to even get into (what I consider) subpar but well ranked schools.

Example it still takes a 4.1 and a pretty amazing SAT to get into UCSB which is a far reach from the top of California.
Furthermore going to a regional college is far different than going to a world renowned top university where everyone is trying to get the best grades possible. Not only this but kids are taking college classes during high school to try to get a leg up on others when it's now because standard practice. Moving on college is extremely competitive for those who want to try and go beyond. Don't say high school is easy blah blah, yes it can be but that's probably because you weren't one of these hyper competitive kids

Qualifications: graduated UCLA and now applying to law school which is 10 times more competitive than all of those.

Teenagers are no better or worse then they have ever been in recorded history - every generation just thinks the following ones are worse.

High school is no harder or easier then it was in any other generation - it has always required higher grades to get into the best colleges this is not a new thing.

Schooling is different for everybody - what some find very easy others can not grasp the same as the rest of life

Schools are not all the same so they can not be compared on an equal basis- never been there but willing to bet high end cars are common at schools in Beverly Hills and not so much in Compton.

Some people have money some don't - those with buy their kids nice cars, those without do not.

Good grades and being an athlete do not equal being a "good" kid and poor grades and no extracurricular activities do not equal being a "bad" kid - you have as many good or bad in either group.

Have I ever seen a thread with so much subjective opinions and theories unsupported by objective evidence or data - NO

As hard as school may be, it's the easiest part of life. I get that kids work hard but how many rewards do you need? You get what you put in with school. Some people get more than that and I can see that bothering people

No but I can just imagine!
Never been an audiophile (I still have some 8 tracks for crying out load) but my son in law will rave about his expensive cables and get really pissed when I honestly say I can hear no difference.

I was really referring to this forum. At least the 200 post debate about proper tire pressure included some attempts to support their arguments beyond "I can just tell" or "at my school".

I never said I don't plan on going to college. The reply I was responding to said it is a piece of cake to pass high school, and it is. But compared to around 20+ years ago, it is significantly harder to get a 3.9+ unweighted GPA, especially when some teachers take away points/give zeros for quizes, work, and tests that students couldn't complete because of excused absences, and don't allow makeups.

I have never received a D as a final grade in my life. I do have an unweighted GPA very near a 4.0, and hope to go to a proper university.

Ha...I've read thousands of posts over at head-fi.org taking about huge assortments of wires, cables, whether carpet, tile, or wood flooring is better for soundstage and accuracy, and people shaving their head bald for a greater experience. For me, my Galaxy S4 and Sennheiser Momentum headphones are good enough

ON THE TOPIC OF SPOILED

There is a 17 year old kid here in my area whose parents bought him a Nissan GTR Black Edition in which they vinyl wrapped blue for him. He recently crashed it into a wall after hydroplaning apparently because he tried to launch it from a stop in the rain. Some kids are just plain stupid and spoiled.

I honestly thought it was hilarious and deserved because he'd always show off his car at a popular milk tea place that i frequent and it bothers me that he takes up a stall and doesn't buy milk tea and just stays there for the attention

I appreciate everybody's feedback. I didn't realize this thread would become this large.

Still waiting on school to view camera footage.

As far as my son, I couldn't of asked for a better young man. Someday you will have an 18 year old. If you are like me, I want to give him every opportunity to succeed in life. One of which is a reliable car. I was sick of fixing his pos jetta. I wanted a newer civic but we found this scion for a little bit more and we all fell in love with it.

Background info: my son will also be racing my 900 hp mustang notch for me.

This conversation seems like the dumbest off topic thing now. If you buy your kid a Ferrari and he's an asshole and someone keys it, what's the difference between that and a kid who worked three jobs to buy a car for his family that he takes to school and it gets keyed?

Literally nothing. Both are criminal vandalism. His son clearly didn't deserve it, and also guess what? It doesn't matterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Jeez.

Yeah lol I had this kid with a black GT mustang and he's a COMPLETE ass. He talks shit about everyone's cars and drives like a typical asshole mustang driver. And then one day someone or some people did some shit to his car and his parents got involved. And WHAT DO YOU KNOW apparently their cute little son COULD NEVER DO NO WRONG LOL

I'm not saying this may be you, but your son might be a **** head at school. In my area I've seen way too many high school FRS drivers swear their the shit (Which is why I DID NOT buy the FRS) But yeah check in with your son. I haven't read this entire thread or anything so somebody may have already said it.

Edit: This happened in high school like 3 or 4 years ago
